Over time, I think Gettleman's proven to be in over his head as gm, and that's coming from someone who was originally pretty stoked that we hired him.

I don't have a good idea as to who we should sign to replace Marty, but I'm not in favor of keeping him and Ron as Khuber keeps suggesting just because we might do worse with their replacements.  Sometimes, the only way to heal is to cut the tumor out, and at this point I think both men's careers here are only unhealthy for us.

Kevin Colbert is my favorite GM choice.

Lately, I've also given some thought to Jeff Ireland. He's someone I would have opposed in the past but man has he been helping the Saints kill it in the draft since he joined them. They give him heavy credit for that ridiculously amazing draft that boosted the team a few years back.

I'm not following his current career that closely. I do know he was battling cancer but I don't have any idea how that's going.

The one thing I can definitively say is that when we had he and Rivera, the two of them produced the most successful period in Panthers history.

Hurney / Rivera? Not so much.

in my mind that was luck.  the 15-1 season was one of the worst seasons of nfl football i've ever seen.   the lack of good teams was astounding.   there was some league wide worry over it as i recall.   we weren't as good as our record - i didn't think.  on other years i don't think we make the SB with that team.   that's just me.

Anything that helps hurt the Saints is fine by me!

The downside is his last GM performance wasn't exactly stellar. And there is that "thing" with Dez Bryant (though I've seen in some places that there might be more to that story).

Of course, it's a very common thing in the NFL that some guys do a lot better on their second chance.

I'd still prefer Colbert overall, but I don't necessarily hate the idea of Ireland as much as I used to.

My bigger concern is HC.

Please no more Fox/Rivera types.

No argument.

I've been pondering GM/coach pairings. Colbert, for example, would be very familiar with Greg Roman's work in Baltimore. That could make an interesting combo.

Ireland, on the other hand, would be all but guaranteed to take Dan Campbell. They have a pretty extensive history together.

get your muscle milk ready!   i've softened my resistance to campbell after thinking about harbaugh coming from special teams and lefleur doing a good job with limited experience

Search "Dan Campbell change culture". You'll find a video of his introductory press conference when he was named interim head coach of the Dolphins.

Watch that clip, especially from about six minutes forward, and you'll get a better idea of why I think he could be really good.

its hard to overcome the laughingstock he became, but its been a while and he's probably learned a lot.   like i said i've softened on it, but my opinion doesn't count at all.

I have long said the Panthers are cursed because they have a black cat as a mascot.

No cat team has won since this moment. Coincidence?

But the important question is, how has it affected you, hepcat?
