We could not run block with Williams, Paradis and Turner across the front. CMC was getting killed.

Who, back in August, would have thought that the loss of GVR would be this big of a deal?

Who back in August thought that Williams would CLEARLY be the worst offensive lineman in the NFL? Who back in August thought that Paradis was going to be the worst center in the NFL?

Well, apparently not the people who signed them and pencilled them in as starters at center and left tackle.

(that these people saw Williams as the best possible option at left tackle still blows my mind)

I figured Williams was washed up. I had a lot of hope for Paradis, even though I'd been clamoring to draft NC State's Garrett Bradbury to replace Kalil the Greater.

I do think I made a comment about old Horseface Elway not being a good judge of talent when it came to letting Paradis go. I may very well have been wrong about it, this time.

Nobody will ever convince me that transitioning to a new defensive alignment was anything other than a horrible, desperate idea. It’s a horrible fit.

I personally love the 3-4 defense. Not ours of course but the concept of it and how it generates pressure. As our sack total told early on it succeeds in that area but we lack the personnel to stay in it or stop the run. The 3-4 needs more specialized space eaters and gap control guys to make it effective there. Not sure what we have as our 3 down line suit it.

And I'm not sure shaq and luke are 3-4 middle linebackers either.. less so with Luke but you know what I mean. However..  I am amazed at how much pressure this change generated after this on the fly change. This rush job of "ok we are a 3-4 defense now" in one year lead us to mask our pass rushing deficiencies from a year ago.

Complete agreement on that...

Again, Rivera just isn't smart enough for these things.

A lot of those sacks came from their NASCAR package. Nickel coverage, five Db’s, and usually three speed rushers with one DT. The 34 front, with 59/54 stacked, has been a disaster against 21/22/12/13 personnel v the run.

I keep alluding to how much having Cam masked so many of our coaching and personnel deficiencies, and one big way it allowed us to specifically with the run game was by allowing us to block with 10 guys on any play, instead of the traditional 9 on a running play.  Now they have nothing to hide behind.  As great as CMC is, he still only has 9 blockers on any given play.  And Kyle Allen looks like a chicken with its head cut off, just running around and tossing up ducks or getting stripped.  It's real ugly.

You get the sense it is more due to the personnel/execution, or coaching?

Who would you have signed to play LT?

Have mentioned it a couple of times: The staff believed that they could get away with skimping on the offensive line because we have a mobile quarterback. Now we don't have a mobile quarterback.

To be completely honest though, it was a stupid choice even when we did.

Said it then, and I'll say it now....switching to the 3/4 is going to accomplish 1 thing very well....putting our best defensive player at a disadvantage.

I didn't think that Ron was really dumb, more stubborn, set in his ways, etc....but I'm pretty sure I was wrong.  I don't think that Ron (nor Marty) can see the long game in the NFL.
