Personality Conflicts

Beyond the most obvious reason why Ron Rivera was fired (failure on the field) Jason LaCanfora reported on WFNZ that there was an additional layer.

Specifically, over this past season, David Tepper and Ron Rivera haven't really been getting along all that well.

LaCanfora stated the two of them had several of what he called "personality conflicts", as well as issues like differences over strategy and approach.

I've not watched "All or Nothing" myself, but for those who have, I wonder what their response would be to this suggestion.

Or even if you haven't, does this surprise you or not?

Ron clearly didn't seem as into analytics and the new processes Tepper wanted to use. He always referred to himself as an old school guy. I think of the Green Bay game going for two. Ron saying it's what the analytics said to do had a tone of irony to it. I think he put up with it in some cases but wasn't convinced.

LMFAO believing every single thing any “insider” says again Christ you are gullible. You and Brees should go into the jewelry business together.

Tepper wanted to see change and Ron didn’t change that simple.

A conflict over the use and value of analytics does sound like a very likely possibility

Every job I've had has been a collection of personality conflicts. The fact he kept him after last season should downplay the extent of any serious issue.

NFL insiders constantly produce stuff like this because it's their job to create content. I wouldn't take them so seriously.

Well, I bought into it when he said that Newton was going to be out several more weeks... Oh wait, that happened.

But yeah, I bought into it when he said that Newton was about to go on injured reserve and... Oh wait, that happened too.

And hell, it wasn't that long ago I fell for his belief that Ron Rivera wasn't going to keep his jo... Oh yeah.

But hey, doggone it, I'm not sure why I even pay any attention to this guy

I’m a little worried that we could be going down the “meddling owner” road. If the word gets out that this is the case and Rivera had issues with it, could it hurt us attracting coaching talent? No one wants to coach under Snyder, Jones, etc.

I believe it but I also believe there was a mutual respect between the two. It's not like they hated each others guts

When you aren't on the internet, it's possible to respect someone and still disagree with them. I tend to have a gut feeling in line with what you're saying here. Tepper clearly favors analytics and a more dynamic approach than Ron seems comfortable with.

    • Well, the whole rationale used  for the high IQ point guard is it would allow us to spend our resources elsewhere….instead it’s all our first rounders ever since to support the bad pick.  Reality is our front office is just bad.  If you wanted Bryce Young you were going to need to do something unique and special for him.  Instead we just insert a QB with traditional tools into old NFL concepts that pair with traditional talent and our pass game is whack
    • Good to see some other folks are speaking the same language on this. It's simple common sense. But it seems like there's a disconnect due to the misplaced value the team has put on Thielen because he was the only vaguely good veteran WR willing to sign with the Panthers after we traded away DJ Moore. That time has come and gone. We have two first round WR's on the roster now.
    • Yeah I’m turning this into a Bryce can’t play QB thread. Just stating that offense was a poo show two years ago. No QB is succeeding in that, much less a rookie. I feel like it’s become a common debate strategy on here to just jump down the rabbit hole of saying he is just bad in so many ways when any certain point gets countered. If that doesn’t work we can deflect to how poorly this team has been ran. In regards to the actual point we are debating, the OL was struggling, half of the skill players aren’t on a roster, Mingo has done nothing with his new team and the staff are either not coaching or on their 3rd team in 3 years, aside from McCown (I liked McCown too). Honestly about as bad as it gets. No need to try to state how good of an offense it was billed it because that has been proven false at this point.
