Draft Position Updates 12/15: #10

Our lovely 5-9 squad currently sits at #7-12 in the draft with SOS putting us at #10.

HOWEVER! Consider the following 5-9 team schedules (bolded are their winnable games IMO):

Chargers: Raiders, Chiefs

Jaguars: Falcons, Colts

Broncos: Lions, Raiders

Jets: Steelers, Bills

Falcons: Jaguars, Bucs

Cardinals: Seahawks, Rams *I think they could pull an upset in one of these

So, in going 5-11, I think it's very possible we end up with pick 7-8. Worst case, probably 9-10.  I find it wildly unlikely if only 2 or less of these teams lose out.

So, I now ask, who do you want?!

Do you know college well because I will be the first to admit I don't. Is their a freak NT in this draft on par or better then Star...about 340 to 350, strong as an oxe and athletic for his size.

Derrick Brown out of Auburn is a tier above the rest.

Yes Derrick Brown is better than star. We also need to target a second round safety. Xavier McKinney, Ashtyn Davis, Richard LeCounte III, Brandon Jones or Winfield jr if he comes out. Marty has been to LSU several times. Im assuming he's looking hard at Delpit in round 1 if Brown and the two Olineman Wirfs and Thomas are gone.

We're a rebuilding team who will need years to get back in contention and don't have a QB

It would be insane to draft for need and chase a DT

You draft the BPA regardless of position, because who knows what we'll need in a few years when we're competitive again

Well Derrick Brown is going top 10 no matter what, so assuming we have pick 8 or 9 he'd likely be best available and is a huge need, but yes if someone drops that somehow is better than Brown you take him; however, I don't know how many will be above Brown... not many that is a fact.

    • Also, you don't really get good value by drafting a center in the first.
    • First off, we haven't been ignoring the defense. We have drafted several defensive players, but, perhaps more importantly, we have added good pieces in free agency. Secondly, the offense was still kinda bad (27th or so depending where you look at). You can't just say we can't pick an offensive guy while acknowledging that the offense wasn't good. Everything is on the table. Like I said above, it seems kind of counterproductive to say that we shouldn't draft an offensive player high unless they're at certain positions. The offense was mediocre at best. Sure, we had an uncanny knack to win some close games at opportune times, but the offense wasn't really good. To me, it makes little sense to put limitations on who/what we should draft when we need an upgrade at so many positions. What you look at is trying to get the best value--bang for your buck so to speak--and that's the way it should be. D-Mo has used FA to set up the draft in order not to be pigeonholed into anything, and that's the way that it should be.
    • Hubert has plenty of money. I don't hate the guy. I think he a legit good guy. This is Ron Rivera all over again for me. It's just very obvious a coaching change is needed and it audka we gottaboart ways with a good guy and I'd much rather it work out but the same issues appearing again and again year after year are clearly shouting what needs to happen. With that said, if we hire Todd Golden, that's it. I'm out. I'd greatly prefer to just keep getting disappointed by Hubert. I can at least stand to root for that.
