Fewell says Cockrell played well in place of Jackson and it sounds like Cockrell will start again in the finale

looks like they listened to me

I didn't watch the game at all, really. I caught a few plays in the second half live, but meh.

That said, I went back and watched the highlights. Donte Jackson is still playing like absolute garbage. It is time to sit his ass down or relegate him to Nickel and let Cockrell start/play 100% of the snaps opposite Bradberry.

You'd think a Secondary-centric Interim coach could see this.

Aside from that, just from the numbers, it looks like we were trying to stop the rush more this week than rush the passer. Horton got a lot more than you would think. That ate into Burns' time some as well as the vet loyalty with Irvin. Obada is also arguably better against the run than Burns.

Since I'm on a roll, I'll go ahead and say that we should cut Daryl Williams immediately and sign any bum off the street to take his spot.

He's absolutely terrible, and one of the biggest problems with our OL. He has been ALL YEAR and nobody is holding him accountable.

Wouldn't really have made a whole lot of sense to go back to Kyle Allen.

Kyle probably appreciates the staff letting Grier take the last two weeks worth of beatings so he isn't the one starting the off season residing in a cold tub.

And Paradis?

I really don't have a problem with taking cap hits and cutting guys like Paradis since we are rebuilding anyway. Clear out the bad contracts are start over fresh.

That's actually probably not the right way to look at that. If you are going through rebuilding, it's best to not accumulate a bunch of dead cap that is going to hinder you. Also, remember that this is the last year of the CBA, so we cannot spread out the cap hit, it will come immediately. If we load up on dead cap this offseason, we will not have any option for relief. That is going to be an issue if you want to re-sign free agents like McCoy, Addison, Cockrell, Irvin, Bradberry, Van Roten, etc.

Also consider we already have $10.5 mil in dead cap in 2020.

I don't want to get rid of every single bad contract, but if we're going to cut a few guys I'd like to do it now.

We have to be careful about how much dead cap we incur.  Our best buddy Matt Kalil still counts $10 million against the cap next year.

If this is rebuilding time, it's probably best to wait until 2021 so you can spread that dead money out and not get smashed next season. Cutting Paradis doesn't really generate much in cap space($1.6 million) because his dead money hit is so big. Same with guys like Short, who only generate $3 mil in cap space with $17.4 mil in dead money.

The biggest two impacts we can make on the cap front would be Cam Newton($2 mil dead money, $19.1 mil in cap space) and Dontari Poe($3.3 mil in dead money, $9.8 mil in cap space). Greg Olsen would free up a chunk of money too.
