How is this on Hurney?

Ron's message was stale here, he will be successful the next place he goes. This team is not going to rally around a DB coach they KNOW will not be here in 2020. Hurney's backups had us at 5-3... You know who signed Kyle Allen? The man drafted Cam Newton, Luke Kuechly, Julius peppers.

Heck Bill freaking Belihick traded a 2nd for Kony Ealy, GMs make mistakes. Kawaan and Poe are out for the year, essentially our starting line minus McCoy. He signed the best Center available to replace Kalil, Dayrl Williams has fallen from Grace coming back from an injury this year, it wasn't too long ago this fanbase was thrilled he was coming back early for the Dallas game...

Donte Jackson obviously has been vocal, but it's ok for Greg to call the whole organization a fail publicly. I don't believe in double standard, veteran or not.

This whole year has been a crapshow, I think you're going to see improvement just by this group of guys hearing a new voice. I'm not oppossed to Mike McCarthy for that reason, I think he had similar reasons to Rivera for getting fired, overstayed message. If Cam Newton comes back next year, we have a shot. I don't think now is the time to fire the GM for an obvious coaching issue. It's amazing Perry quit abusing CMC, another Ron issue, he was ok with running players in the ground.

If we suck in 2020, we can join the Trevor Lawrence race. Ultimately, I am ok with Hurney staying one more year. If Hurney is such a bad GM, why did Ron get no defense for having a terrible roster?

Losing overall record over 13 seasons pretty much says it all.

Things only spiraled downhill faster after Ron was fired.

How is this NOT on Hurney?

And again, teppers guy he obviously probably wants isn't available until April... Hurney likely prepares for draft and helps the new GM from Pittsburgh settle in as his contract expires.

And that has to do with Hurney building an even shittier roster this year how?

Because Rivera refuses to use or develop his backup talent? How can anybody (Shaq Thompson is a good example) when nobody in the depth chart gets snaps? Everyone was yelling MVP in the stadium while CMC was slow to get up from being over used. Why would Hurney use money on good backups when Rivera refuses to play them?

I'd rather Tepper play mock drafts on Fanspeak to prepare for the draft than have Marty help.

I understand your plight OP. But this board as a whole has 0 rationale thinking ability on this topic, especially after getting blown out today.

Hurney 2.0 was widely praised by many who have now turned their back on him again.

The teams record with him as GM is pathetic and that argument will trump any critical thinking arguments made in his favor.

Clearly Tepper sees something in him and for better or worse that’s ultimately matters more than any thread on this board.

If you had to name 1 thing in the 25 seasons of the Carolina Panthers that has had more of an influence other than JR in terms of tenure and position only Marty Hurney could make such a boast.

I'll rephrase.

Marty Hurney has been in charge of the FO of this franchise for 13 out of 25 years.  52% of our entire history has been molded, shaped, crafted and manipulated by Marty Hurney.  How much more of our history are you willing to let Marty write?

Does Hurney have any back to back winning seasons under his Hall of Fame career with the Panthers? I need an answer on this one from one of Marty Hurney's huddle accounts.

Nobody is calling him a hall of famer. But I contend he’s done an excellent job since his return. Much of the good he did was erased by Rivera and Cam being injured the last 2 seasons. As for his first go round he made plenty of mistakes, but there’s also a lot of evidence to suggest many of those mistakes were orchestrated by J.R and he merely let Hurney fall on the sword.

    • Per Bill Barnwell  Broncos part ways with a CB on the roster bubble Broncos get: 2026 seventh-round pick Panthers get: CB Damarri Mathis The Broncos have a rare problem among NFL teams: too many cornerbacks. ESPN's Jeff Legwold projects they could move on from Mathis, who was very good as a rookie in 2022 before losing his starting job after the defense's slow start in 2023. He played just 27 defensive snaps after Week 6 that season and 80 more across 10 games in 2024. With the Broncos using their 2025 first-round pick on cornerback Jahdae Barron, they could justify moving on from Mathis, who might not be active on game days even if he sticks around. Mathis' best season came with defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero in Denver, and he hasn't been able to reach those same heights since Evero left for Carolina. The Panthers are set with Jaycee Horn, Mike Jackson and nickel corner Chau Smith-Wade as their three starting corners, but Mathis could push the 28-year-old Jackson and serve as Carolina's primary reserve on the outside. Mathis is owed $3.4 million in 2025, so Denver might essentially buy a draft pick by eating some of that cash, similar to what the Commanders did when they sent running back Brian Robinson Jr. to the 49ers.
    • They can get fuged for a 6th and 7th. Doesn't make sense for us for anything less than a 4th and them paying a majority of his salary.
