Rebuild the offense this year

With the departure of Luke our defense will have many holes. Way more than the offense this year. With a OC who could turn out to be a top coordinator this year it only makes sense to rebuild their offense first.

What we have.

Christian McCaffrey- an all pro running back that can be dynamic in both the passing and running game.

DJ Moore- A WR who can get separation and make even bad QBs look good. He also put up 1000 yards with McCaffrey and they combine to be a dynamic duo.

Outside of these two players we get into the average/ good players.

Curtis Samuel- a gadget player who can effect defenses with his running or pass catching ability.

Ian Thomas- a TE who has shown flashes to get separation and make plays

Trai Turner- a former all pro guard who has trouble staying healthy.

Taylor Moton- a Tackle who has had success at both tackle positions.

Naturally that's not a great bunch to work with but if we focus on rebuilding the line and the WR position we could successfully have a unit that could complete in two years. This unit would be the easiest to fix especially if we choose to move back to the 4-3 where most of our outside rushers will struggle along with not having a CB or MLB in the mix. So what are you guys thoughts?

If we want to try to be competitive, probably our best bet is to bring back Cam, focus on building a legit OL, patch together a D the best we can and basically try to be the Chiefs. Win with a high flying offense that can compensate for a really had defense.

Yep.

Sign a playmaker or two on D and hope for a couple stops each game. Outside of Mathieu and Alexander (generous by naming Frank) I don’t think many people can name many starters on their D and for good reason.

With the way the NFL is evolving to a offensive driven league it’s not such a long shot for this formula to work out these days

And at the end of the day, if Cam's injury issues resurface again we'll probably be setup for another top 10 pick anyway. A couple of breaks here and there and maybe we're in the Trevor Lawrence sweepstakes.

At this point you plan for Cam's return and draft accordingly. Cam wants to stay and as far as we know the coaching staff and Tepper want him here as well. That means the draft should focus on fixing the o-line to protect Cam, allow passes down field, and open even better rushing lanes for CMC. That is the top priority. The defense should be tinkered with to add free agent journeymen who are skilled at stuffing the run.

We can't fix the offense and defense. This draft we fix the offense, 2021 we fix the defense, or draft a QB if Cam doesn't make it. With the offense fixed we should be able to compete and have a decent season if Cam remains healthy. The rules favor the offense, so you want to make sure you are getting the benefit of all those PI calls made each season.

If Cam plays well and accepts a new contract, then 2021 you rebuild the defense. You plop a Kris Jenkins type at DT, and a Peppers type at DE via the draft. Add a long rangy zone CB to pair with Bradberry, and move Jackson to the slot. 2021 you have very good team hopefully.

Look what happened to the Patriots they had a historic Defense only to let them down. Build a offense juggernaut!

    • With Horn I would gladly over pay... via the TAG.   I would take his 5th year option and TAG and TAG again. Dude is a monster but I dont want to pay for a monster with as few starts as he has.
    • If Bryce plays like last year, we will be picking high and can move on.  But I am curious to see how people on here are when he sees success and becomes the guy, if he does. It's almost like people want him to fail. He's got that Panther jersey on and a good attitude. I am rooting for him, as you should.  Last year the coaching, OL, and weapons were abysmal, and it put him in a tough spot. He did not play well either, but we saw glimpses, and its a full team sport. I choose to go into this year excited under a fresh new regime and a top prospect from 365 days ago at the helm with new OL and weapons. Whatever happens, happens. Let's have some fun with it.
    • Maybe. You know he wanted that OC gig each time, I believe the last time they even stated he interviewed for the role. This was during the whole youth movement that mccvay started as well.  Honestly I was hoping Seattle would have cut ties with pete, he would have been great here in a top mentor role. I don't think its talked about enough, they did Pete wrong. He made them a great NFL team for the first time in their history and gave them a SB. He's still in great shape by all reports and they just decided to go young. They even removed most of his pictures and quotes in the building. Sorta like what the pats did to bill, but waay worse.  I guess I have too much loyalty for the new times, no chance either should been to out for retirement..
