Good lord you went on a typing tear. I'd draft:

#7 - Andrew Thomas, OT, Georgia

#38 - Tyler Biadasz, C, Wisconsin

#69 - Leki Fotu, DT, Utah

This should fix the o-line, and help with run defense.

This would be a dream draft . But after the combine That D tackle gonna be in the first round convo i can see it now . That dude is Star on steroids with the way he can pass rush . And i would move Tyler to guard that man is huge !!

I spent an hour writing this lol, so please read if you have the time and give me your opinions on what you think I got right and what I got wrong. I seriously think if we resign our FAs on defense and fix our run D by getting at least 2 Dts capable of disrupting run schemes it will have a ripple effect to the lbs then secondary and fix the whole D. I'm on the D. Brown train at 7 currently.

Here’s my feedback:

In terms of the structure of your writing it’s fine. You organized your thoughts into complete well structured sentences and put those into paragraphs that flowed logically. This might seem super basic but on message boards more often than not people can’t even do those things right. So in that respect it was a solid post and I commend you for taking the time and effort to put it together and share.

With regards to the content I feel overall you’re seeing things trough glasses that are a bit too rosy. I am all for optimism cause around here its usually downed out by all the prophets of Doom, but go back and look at your overall tone. Someone reading this who didn’t know anything about our situation would probably think that with a little luck next year we’re a playoff team. I think that’s significantly off base as a realistic appraisal. Consider trying to present both pros and cons in your breakdowns or perhaps present what you feel are players or position groups floor and ceiling for the coming season.

Good analysis, and I agree with much of what you wrote, even if it is overall a bit on the optimistic side. My main disagreement is with your evaluation of Curtis Samuel. He has not proven to be an effective starting receiver. Not our top draft priority, obviously, but we could probably find someone better in free agency.

Well I was trying to stay more to the positive side with this to offset all the gloom. With the perfect FA and draft we could be right back in it. Is this a probability, no, is it a possibility, yes. The two biggest areas of concern are our trenches on both sides of the ball, one side could be fixed this year and the other could be patched by know older vets. Overall we now have a pretty solid young core.

My whole point with him is even if he doesnt catch a ball (wich I think the times he was open and underthrown he would have) he still plays that position in the way we need. He keeps teams out of single high coverage, and he actually still scored alot of tds this season on contested balls. I'm definitely pro Samuel and feel with a NFL calibre qb he will put up 750 to 1k yards wich is all you need from your 2.

I just dont feel any year should be a "tank" year. We have quite a few solid young pieces and there is no reason no to compete, I promise the players dont want to lay down before the season starts. I only see us being bad (assuming we hold on to about 4 FAs) if we neglect the interiors of our trenches. The DT position is probably our oldest wich is why I think we take D. Brown. If you cant stop the run it puts so much more on the lbs and secondary. Getting a guy like Jason Peter's will allow us to see what we have in little and let him develop while landing a franchise center in the draft. This draft seems to be deep in interior olineman wich some will fall and we should take advantage. We might not field a top 5 oline but we could field one in the top 3rd. If we bring back Cam, protect him alot better and can stop the run, we will be competitive especially with what I feel to be a great staff. Obviously if we let Cam go all bets are off.

Ok, to address the cons part of your statement I have to think in a manner of moves I wouldn't make. Truly going through a rebuild and letting go of Cam, Bradberry, Tre, and less importantly McCoy leaves us with more holes then we had. I'm all for objective thinking but I just dont want to see that happen as I feel these guys are fine at what they do. We need depth in a few positions to keep a rotation going is the big thing but we are fine at edge imo, anything that has to do with getting to the qb. Most things we need can actually be addressed later in the draft outside of a true disrupting DT who can play all the line positions and a LT. Imo LTs are about as hard to find as qbs and if your gonna spend money this is the spot to do so for stop gaps until you happen to nail one in the mid rounds or late first rd of the draft. Everything else I like homegrown talent , I like resigning our own players that we drafted with the occasional cheap end of career stop gap. I personally just dont want to already think next season is a bust and refuse to do so lol. Maybe I'm in denial or maybe I'm right? Nobody knows.

My personal take is that there are moves we could make which would let us be middle of the road competitive but those moves would come at a cost to our long term growth.

Of the players you mentioned, retaining Bradberry makes sense as long as he’s willing to back off wanting top 5 money. He’s not a top 5 corner. Maybe top 10, but even that’s subject to debate. McCoy is over 30 and any 300 lbguy over 30 you have to seriously consider if it’s worth the risk his health or play will suddenly deteriorate. Look at rosters league wide and see how many guys you see who are both 300 lbs and 33 or older. Retaining Tre for a reasonable price makes sense imo.

That brings us to one Cam Newton. It is really really hard to let go of any player of Cam’s caliber, and as much as I would love to see what he could do in a Joe Brady offense, I think the reality is the odds are stacked against his returning next year and playing to the level he has in the past. The reasons are numerous from his health to his age to his contract situation, the state of the o line and the state of the team in general. Few things would make me feel better than to be wrong about this, but I think it would be unfair to Cam to expect him to come back and put this team on his shoulders again the way he did for years. Frankly given the state of the franchise, I think it’s almost unfair to expect him to want to.

I am with you on LT and retaining homegrown talent, but I am not expecting us to be competitive next year and I think trying to make moves for the sake of pretending we can be will most likely impact long term prospects negatively.

I was only down with signing McCoy of he came cheap otherwise we need a strong DT draft. Drafting a good center and guard should protect Cam about as well as he ever has been and we have done more with less however my whole theory is hinged on Cam coming back. If he doesn't and we cant get a qb to replace at least some of his production then I dont see the point in alot of things.

Our roster probably ultimately looks like this before draft and FA

QB: Kyle Allen, Will Grier
RB: CmC, Reggie Bonnafon
FB: Alex Armah
WR: DJ Moore, Curtis Samuel, Brandon Zylstra
TE: Ian Thomas,
LT: Greg Little, Dennis Daley
LG: Greg Van Roten
C: Matt Paradis
RG: Trai Turner
RT: Taylor Moton

DE1: Brian Burns, Christian Miller
DE2: Efe Obada, Marquis Haynes
DT: Kawaan Short
DT2: -
ILB: Shaq Thompson
OLB: Jermaine Carter
SS: Eric Reid,
FS: -

Not exactly a world beater, I don't really see us re-signing hardly anyone.

That team would lose a best out of 10 against the bungals. Losing Cam and Luke.......kills the overall talent.

Honestly need about 10-8 starters and about 15 depth upgrades. This year Herniay needs to hit on some UDFAs badly, (given the cap).

2020 will be a long year, be lucky to repeat this years record.

You also have to remember the...."positive side" of Luke and Cam being gone, that frees up our cap tremendously, we should be able to resign Bradberry (the only person we really should resign) and fill a lot of our holes in FA, along with whatever draft capital we get from Cam.

I don't like letting Bradberry go but I also don't think he's worth the money he's going to command.
