Saints appear ready to keep Hill over Bridgewater

Taysom Hill is their shot at Trevor Lawrence.

From what I've read, I don't think it's a huge stretch to believe that Payton thinks he could win with Taysom Hill.

Again, if it comes to that, I hope he's wrong. But it's not hard to think that he might genuinely believe it.

I think if he did Hill would've been starting over Bridgewater this year. They really simplified their offense with Bridgewater in there. They used him as a game manager which isn't surprising. Virtually all teams do that with their backup QB, but they don't play that guy over a QB they think is their future.

I agree that was their decision last year. Doesn't necessarily mean that's their decision for next year. What they saw it last year could have changed their minds.

Granted, this could be posturing, but if they ultimately do choose to pay Hill over Bridgewater, who knows?

They've let this dude throw 13 whole passes.

What a nice problem to have: 3 potential franchise QBs on your roster.

Cry me a river.

I mean realistically none of them are “franchise QBs” at this point. Hill has proved less in this league at QB than Kyle Allen. Teddy has had an opportunity and been average at best and that was before a career changing leg injury (affecting one of his bigger strengths in mobility), and Drew is a year to year declining future HoF at this point.

And of those, several looked pretty good.

Also remember a rookie will have thrown zero NFL passes. Teams still give them starting jobs.

Bottom line: What we think of Hill isn't what weighs on the decision. It's what Payton thinks of him.

And of course, if his faith is misplaced, that's good for us.
