Albert Breer: Patriots director of player personnel Nick Caserio could be hired after his contract runs out

This whole discussion assumes Marty isn't doing his job and is likely to be fired post draft. I have read little to suggest that any of that is true. In fact Hurney has done a very good job since he came back and that is a general consensus outside of a dozen vocal posters on the huddle. I think Tepper does know what he is doing and apparently the advice he must be getting from his football people must be Hurney is doing a good job as well.  Then again I am sure that those complaining know more about football and money than Tepper.

There are no facts to support this supposition.  None.

It never was true and never will be.

Please explain in detail with facts, not opinion.

Would we run into the same issue with Caserio as we did with Berry? Is Hurndizzle cockblocking a much better talent entering our FO?

Caserio's contract ends after the draft. At that point, permission doesn't matter because he's a free agent.

It's also been reported that if he's not staying, the Patriots would prefer he leave sooner rather than later as they don't want him to be part of or have knowledge of their offseason plans (yeah, Belichick is ruthless).

Now with that said, to anyone who thinks Caserio would interview for anything less than the full GM job, I'd say "not likely".

Not to rehash this topic, but outside of his first round successes, what has he done that leads you to this thought?

If you created a "pros/cons" list and named off items, is your "pro" column truly that much greater than your "cons" column at this high of a level of a billion-dollar organization that is supposedly against mediocrity, to keep him as the right-hand man to your #1?

I think he has done a good job in the draft and free agency. Given the number of injuries we had the past 2 years it has been a revolving door for many units on the team. You have to separate the talent he has accumulated from the results the coaching produced which aren't synonomous. Would any disagree that the talent on this team has underperformed or do you think we don't have any talent?

It wouldn't matter what facts I would bring up, you wouldn't agree or change your mind. So why would I bother going through the effort. A lot like the impeachment trial, everyone believes what they want and arrange facts to fit their agenda. I have plenty of reasons to back up my opinion and you do for yours.

I don't have to be.  His teams records speak for themselves.  But if you are cool with a 1 in 4 chance of fielding a winning team then more power to ya brother.

While the buck stops with the GM and owner, the fact they are still here and Rivera isn't suggests where they think the blame lies.

Don't know why supporting Hurney supports a 1-4 chance of fielding a winning team. He doesn't play or coach simply gets the coach and scouts the players they request and fits it under the cap.

Yeah, why blame the captain of the ship?   Tepper owns the boat but your boy is steering the ship.   So far he's managed to run it aground more times than Skipper and Gilligan.

    • One word to describe next year's QB draft class...DEEP!  To me, this is Bryce's make or break year.  The organization probably doesn't feel that way and will likely anoint him as the starter to at least 2027 no matter what.  Some of these dude's will likely stay in college, but the bulk of them will be coming out.  Manning and Sellers are two probably staying. That's not to say that the 2027 QB class will be crappy or thin, because I honestly don't know.  It usually does skip at least a year--or more, but rarely two bumper crops of QBs in consecutive years. https://www.espn.com/nfl/draft2026/story/_/id/45453107/2026-nfl-draft-quarterback-class-top-prospects-klubnik-sellers-manning
    • I think Ransom will be a solid player for us.  He played beside Caleb Downs, the cornerstone of the Ohio State defense last year and some have him as a top 5 pick for the 2026 draft.  He was characterized as the smart, instinctive, versatile safety.   I just don't think S will be a liability unless we have injuries.  I am very interested in seeing what they have in the three UDFA safeties; I see one making the roster. As for CB, I think they are higher on Wade-Smith than most of us are. Again, depth is a concern.  We have to hope Jackson has another solid season and Horn does not injure his leg or toe on one of the yard lines.   I am not sure I would compare it to last season's DL because this year's DL will cover a lot of deficiencies, but I know what you mean---our weak link.
