Another year, another draft thread.

It's a concern that is compounded for me when that guy plays in the same unit as a dominant player projected as a top 10 pick. Is he just a lunch pail try hard guy who is maximizing the opportunity to shine with his teammate drawing all the attention from the opponents?

On top of the fact that he has the size that give you the flexibility to slide him inside in particular defensive sets.

Now I'm not saying he's the best player in the draft or anything, but if he ends up going in the bottom of the first, it will be because of his consistent productivity in the SEC as well as his flexibility and strength.  It certainly won't be because of any sort of flashy athleticism.

His days on the edge of any DEF are probably over. He bulked up after the season(300+) knowing he couldn’t survive at DE in a 4-3. He is probably best suited as a 5-tech in a 3-4.

I could see him playing DE in a 3-4. But the reality of the modern NFL is that 3-4 DEs are playing as a three tech the vast majority of the time because regardless of 4-3 vs. 3-4, nickel is the de facto base defense in today's NFL.

What I’m saying is he hasn’t done much of either. So it’s tough to judge his play at 4-3 DE compared to any technique that involves moving inside. Which at 300+, is happening. And he knows it.

Nickel doesn’t change your DL. Its either 3 or 4 man. It either O/1 and 3/5 tech.

Daeshon Hall scenario right there in a nutshell.  Hall put up decent stats with Miles Garrett on the opposite side drawing all the attention at Texas A&M.  We moved up in the 3rd round to get him.  Come to find out he was a 'try hard' guy that benefited from a stud playing the opposite end and couldn't make a name for himself here.

I don't even think he qualified as a try hard guy. He was a naturally gifted guy with the measurables to still put up decent numbers despite loafing when he had an elite dominant player opposite him drawing all the attention.

Benefit of having Brady is his inside knowledge of LSU players, both offense and defense.  Rhule has mentioned several times of his preference for directly knowing players.  Wouldn’t be surprised if Rhule would take or stay away from Delpit based substantially on Brady’s recommendation.

Yeah, between them they should definitely have really good knowledge of SEC and Big 12 prospects, as well as Clemson.

    • Another layer to that is Ive seen Seattle has been in the market for CB help this off-season.   Michael had a higher PFF grade than Horn who got 15 games this season. He wants to be here too, that's a huge bonus for any 5 win team that had awful pass rush.  The 7th rounder Michael Barrett didn't last long on Seattle, he was cut before the season I think and ended up on browns PS. He's already been on 5.......5 teams within one year.......
    • You have gave the board some recent gold via posting. Heres my poor attempt at the truthful play-by-play of the time during post- I pulled out the old laptop to do my shitposting and check on websites. Open the huddle and see this new thread. Open thread and read CRAs post, {inner thinking, oooOOooo this is my lane and I got this}. Make sure not to scroll even to the 2nd post. 23% of current neurons still firing start up and two names appear- Captain and Josh....... about another 43 seconds past "O GOD" it's July 4th weekend and I got medicine to pick up. (If the laptop didn't give away my aging, the meds should...) I need to split, think long panther careers and the hint-  Ryan Kalil was a late 2nd and Pro bowls(even all-pros too) he's got to be OLman and Mikie Minter is among the all-time Panthers career leaders. Drop my post. Scramble to get keys, wallet, and phone. Check my phone- its 17% battery.....fug I now have to raw dog the pickup line and put the phone on charge.... Flip flops, sweat ringed filled hat, and shades acquired. Get in my pos rav4 and think about not running the A/C. Pull out the drive way and reach the 1st stop light, A/C is wide open. I check my shirt to see if there's any new stains on my house shirt, bush off the Bojangles salt that I see.... Neurons re-fire and focus on the comments CRA made that no one would get this....... Dang IT, that means it isn't Ryan Kalil or Mike Minter! CVS is close, but I know its impossible I get back withing 10 minutes to change my post and my phone is on the charger. {Think you monkey, at one point you were a draft nerd}. Reach the CVS line, by some grace its not 5 cars deep during 5 o'clock traffic hell. Im second in line after the car in front of me both turn in, they have to go back and forth to line up while Im a pro for that geometry. Neurons finally reach peak performance as Ive re-thought draft classes. Think obscure and unknown 7th rounders with long careers. Some Sunday/Monday night member berry fell out of my Melon, Will montgomery during the players intros for washington. I thought he out of the league and was shocked to see him still playing around the 2015 years. I do a goggle background check and that refreshed memory. Pick up the meds and enjoy the sweet smelling cool CVS air. Driving back and check in on one of the local bums at the big stop light, wow he's got a new fancy rug. Think about all the old food I got and need to start giving it away and rethink it. Reach home and post a follow up and I know Minter is wrong too, I check the draft history and see Robert Mcclain. Too late, but that would have been my guess....open CRAs link and get "upset" at the DBs name.
    • THANKS my guy! Keeping up with this threads theme, if I view a thread and there's only 20 posts and some time passes. If I see there's one new post and read the name; @Dave Gettleman's Shortsis among the chosen few that I will reopen that thread just to see what you posted.    Thanks again, plus not just a scout, thats scotty mccloughans son?!?!? If not for the deep claws of booze, scotty is among the best talent finders this league has recently had. Last I heard he ran a consulting business. Caden could be one of those who's on a early path to being a GM in the future. I was a big fan of his dad, dam shame about booze demon ruining his career.
