The Panthers are still kicking the tires on a late round/priority FA QB.  This time it is James Madison's QB.  Although it is FCS, that program has recently been on the par with North Dakota St. as the big dogs on that level. (Not looking good fro Greir)

James Madison QB

And there was the bit about the Panthers being interested in Morgan from FIU.

When does Marty just say, "Sorry guys.  I don't know crap about QBs?"  From Weinke to Clausen to not wanting Cam to Grier (first round grade).  At some point, the credentials say "Dumbass" no matter what his mouth is saying.

Same theory applies to DTs.

Now we are talking about Marty being in charge and needing 2 DTs and a late round QB.

Damn, Panthers.  When have you seen enough to know to give the reins to someone else?  Go with some website instead---Draft Thunder or My Mom's Mock.

At least if a day 3 QB prospect flops, it's stings waaaaaay less.  Hopefully if this does come about and we do take a QB, I hope Brady was the one scouting them and not Marty.

TE at 38 might be the worst pick we could make. I’d argue for every other position over TE. RB, QB and S would be the next. Thomas can do the little that Moss did at LSU last year. LSU had the best college WRs and Moss still had less than 10% of Burrow’s total passing yards. A second TE to share the 400-450 yards with Thomas?

maybe someone will want our spot

I'm convinced that Tepper doesn't really follow the NFL, or did very little to no research into the teams that Marty put together.

Seems he just came in and was like "Ron, you and Marty have a clean slate, the past is the past, and I'm sure that both of you will be smarter and better prepared, just because of the signature on the bottom right of your paychecks".

Anyone that can look at the team as it stands today, and look back at Marty's career....and think that they have a solid GM in place HAS to not understand team building, or the NFL.

I agree to a point but you can't take away the fact that he got Cam and signed Jake.  Both you're only franchise QB in team history.. And we can go down every GM list of fail QB picks..

I love Ossie Newsome as a GM but he picked Kyle Boller in the 1st and Chris Redman in the 3rd.. Those are some significant misses in his draft history..

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports "one team that appears poised to move up" in the draft is the Falcons from No. 16 overall.

The Falcons have just six picks in next week's draft, so they'd likely have to dip into their 2021 stock to make a move happen.  Defensive line and cornerback appear to be the team's biggest needs right now.  Maybe GM Thomas Dimitroff is eyeing someone like Ohio State CB Jeffrey Okudah, though that would likely require a huge leap into the top three or five picks.  Do-it-all LB Isaiah Simmons, Auburn DT Derrick Brown, and Florida CB C.J. Henderson also make plenty of sense for Atlanta.

Well, there is some argument that says RR wanted Cam---had to talk MH into it.  Marty wanted to develop Clausen for another year.  Marty was leaning Marcel Dareus---going from memory. Signing Jake was perhaps the best free agent signing in our history---and Stephen Davis at about the same time.   Think about the impact those two made.
Here are some highlights:

Tries to trade up for Clausen

Trades up for Amanti Edwards

Resigns Stewart and DWill to monster deals when RB was being devalued

Lets Peppers walk

Re-signed Jake Delhomme after Tommy John surgery

DT--Drafted McClain, Fua,, Corvey Irvin, Nick Hayden, A. Ellison, Moorehood

WOW, if you or I were the GM, we could have done this well--without miles of tapes, interview data, scouts scanning the nation, etc.

Davis/Delhomme were awesome, but Marty lived for a long time on the success of the core he inherited--players like Jenkins, for example.

When Marty's job was on the line, he started trading away first rounders and future high draft picks--how did he do?

Everette Brown for a first rounder'

Jeff Otah for a first rounder

Armanti Edwards for the 33rd overall pick

Frank Alexander for third and a fifth rounder.  Alexander was a fourth round pick and Greatful dead head.

My theory?  Marty only had extensive knowledge on the players he was targeting per round--no BPA--he was targeting players.  When it does not go to plan, he improvised and went by name recognition.  But when his job was on the line, he threw away next year's capital to try to meet needs.  He failed miserably.

The Bucs, Broncos, and Ravens have been mentioned as well.

What scares me most about GM's and HC's heading into lame duck years is that they will throw anything against the wall to see if it sticks, future of the team be damned.

We did it last year with the draft and free agency...all out to rush the passer....it blew up in our face, and we will pay for those stupid decisions for the next couple years.  It's why I wanted Marty and Ron out the door as soon as Tepper bought the franchise.

Both the HC and the GM of the Falcons are on the hot seat, and without their late season run, would likely be unemployed right now...they are going to go all out on 20, and not have a care in the world for the future.  Good.

When Marty has been on the hotseat, he sold the farm---trading a 3rd and 5th for Frank "smoke em if ya got em" Alexander, trading a future first to move up for Jeff Otah, trading a future first to move up in the second round for Everette Brown....

    • There is so much wrong with this post it's scary. First, as it's been explained to you, the Bills call was 100% correct, he never actually had control of the ball outside of literally less than a half second of time, you're stuck on super slow mo and still frames as your proof.   And second, the refs get almost zero replay assistance on the types of calls that make people say they are terrible at their jobs.  Replay assistance is for things like catches, in/out of bounds, fumbles, and ball placement.  Fans really don't care much about those things and if refs are right or wrong, because of the replay assistance (only comes into factor when it's too close to call so the original call stands) They don't get any assistance on the rest of the penalties that are always what fans get upset about and why people say refs are terrible.  Namely, things like holding and PI, both called and missed, which they get absolutely zero replay assistance for. It's those things I'm talking about where it's really tough for 7 refs to catch everything all the time.  They can only watch so many things at once, and that's if they even have a line of sight on the penalty, so many times the ref is watching the play but the player's bodies are between the ref and the penalty, particularly PI.
    • Slowik was who I wanted as our HC when we hired Canales.  He clearly had an idea of how to maximize Strouds talent. sophmore slumps happen, but he fell off a cliff this year and I believe it can be due to getting rid of him.
    • Trey has plenty of tape standing up surprisingly. Guys like him have the technique and IQ to play the position for awhile. Cincy definitely  did him wrong and I'd gladly accept  him.  He would allow us to continue developing  Princely etc too.  Take an MLB or olineman with 19 or trade back and add more picks.  I'd assume free agent rushers would welcome the fact we have good coverage.
