Georgia has already been caught intentionally manipulating their data, so I'm not sure what to believe out of that state.

There has been reports of data manipulation everywhere.  Claims are some places are inflating their data while others under-reporting.

Seems like most of the claims of inflating data have been conspiracy driven. Virtually every virologist and epidemiologist on the planet is onboard with the idea that official cases are far under-reported due to testing numbers. Georgia was straight up changing the dates on their data to show a false downward trend to justify their reopening. Hell, even Trump was saying that Georgia was being reckless.

I don’t think what happened in Georgia is as malicious as you are portraying. At least from the reporting I’ve read.

Either way, they aren’t doing those things now and numbers aren’t spiking and hospitals are reporting falling case numbers.

It could be a blip, but we’ll see.

They've made repeated "errors" that forced their governor to publicly apologize. I don't see anyway to paint rearranges dates in data sets to fit the curve you want to portray as an honest mistake. They flat out lied and manipulated data. I don't see why we'd trust them to not be doing it again.

Georgia did go a bit fast, I won't deny that.  However, folks in the healthcare field have said the actually death count is probably lower because the hospitals get a government subsidy for having treated a COVID patient that ultimately dies.  To that end, some deaths have been coded COVID-19 just to get money that weren't even COVID related at all.   A local hospital is being sued because they coded a heart attack victim COVID-19 to get the money and the family found out about it through a whistle blower at the hospital.

Several first hand accounts from medical personnel who were told to classify deaths as COVID if they showed any of the symptoms and whether or not they tested positive. Other accounts of patients who tested positive and died who where classified as COVID deaths whether they died of COVID symptoms or something else. I have personally talked to a few nurses who have made similar claims. Now, there may also be some under reporting in some places as well, but let's admit we probably wouldn't bet our paychecks on either side of it.

At the very least, the undercounting would cancel out any over counting.

There were a LOT of cases in NYC where people died at home and were never tested because they didn’t make it to the hospital. Firefighters were reporting thousands of at home deaths.

Some of those cases are now being counted as likely Covid deaths, but no one knows the true number.

“Mayor Bill de Blasio acknowledged on Tuesday that the vast majority of deaths taking place at home were likely also due to COVID-19, the disease caused by the virus, meaning the death toll could be as much as 70% higher than currently reported figures.”

Oh lord, so now some quacks on YouTube and a handful of anecdotal accounts equates to proof of widespread fraud?

There may also be cases of under-reporting when we had a severe shortage of testing supplies until very recently? Well, ya don't say...

Widespread fraud?  Not completely sure how widespread it is, but it's happening.  In the early weeks of the pandemic, positive cases were grossly under-reported (as you stated) and if there is fraud, laziness or just assumption of COVID-19 contributing to inflated deaths rates (as put on death certificates) with simple math...what does that do to the death rate?  At this point, unless the number of positive cases skyrocket and the deaths stop, will the death rate shrink in any meaningful way.

This is a bad pandemic, there's zero doubt about it, but these 4%-6% death rates are not realistic.

Yeah, virtually every virologist and epidemiologist on that planet who are highly specialized in this regard strongly disagree with this.

They all think we are over-counting?

    • agreed. reich and fox were kind of similar in that i think their comfort zone with QBs were established vets.  any rookie QB would have been outside that. i do think that he might have been more comfortable with stroud than young, but i also still think that we would have been stuck in a bad place. there was more than went wrong than with the QB. nothing worked and QB issues were one of many symptoms of the problem that we found ourselves in with reich. the whole thing was too much for him. not only did he get a QB outside of his comfort zone, he got unfamiliar assistants that came from unfamiliar schemes. he had no prior relationship with most coaches he had added to his staff.  again, that staff was tepper's idea...get the dream staff with a billion years of experience and those who don't have a poo ton of experience were coaches that were considered up and comers for HC jobs.  reich is a mild-mannered passive likeable kind of guy. he wasn't the big dominant personality that would be needed to handle that staff.
    • I can't blame anyone in sports media for not believing we've made a big enough jump talent wise to compete. I mean let's be realistic. In the eyes of many of us here we were improved on paper under Scott Fitterer each offseason the last few years. Just because we're once again buying in doesn't mean the rest of the sports world will also. Then you go back to preseason last year and the downplaying of how horrific we looked not just offensively but as a whole. If we look competent in preseason  I will begin to feel some level of confidence about the direction of the team and so will those in the sports world. Until then nothing we've done matters.
    • Yeah we don't have a beast mode, and Bryce doesn't threaten with the play action/scramble deep shots. That's the majority of the reason that formula worked in Seattle during that stretch. I hope Brooks is a good back, but he's definitely not a beast mode type.
