With Luke retiring, he is our best player.

I'm not really into paying him this offseason, but we will have to stroke him a check next offseason...hope we can get a QB on a rookie deal to offset that.

Good stuff. I'm like the producer of that clip in that I don't generally think it's a good idea to invest heavily in a RB, but McCaffrey is both a RB and receiver and is just a unique player and match-up problem for every defense. I'd love to keep him.

Having said that, as great as he is, I still think it's possible that he prices himself out of what we ought to pay - given our current circumstances. Teams need lots of parts and if you over-allocate cap resources narrowly, you can make things difficult on yourself in terms of fielding a complete and competitive team. But he deserves to get paid, no doubt. Such a fun, dynamic and intelligent player.

historically mccaffrey puts up higher volume on more touches (and significantly more snaps) in losses so if that trend holds he's going to put together his best season this year because the outlook isn't great for this team. good for his stat line in general, though he's less efficient and sees greater risk of injury under those circumstances. if rhule tries to run the offense through him the way rivera did he's definitely gonna hold out and/or demand a trade next offseason. running backs are lucky if they get to one big payday. at the college level you're seeing more and more elite running backs commit to programs that already have (or intend to recruit) other elite running backs explicitly to keep coaching staffs from running them into the ground.

i seem to recall tepper and rhule investing in sports science stuff? hopefully the science is in maximizing efficiency, prolonging careers, and actually winning games.
