Wide Receivers

This may be the deepest WR class in a  very long time.  I would be very disappointed if we don't draft one in the first 3 rounds.  I know we have glaring needs on Defense but you have to take talent when you see it.

Assuming we go Defense in round 1:, here are some guys that may be available in 2nd and 3rd rounds:

- Denzel Mims (Baylor)

- K.J. Hamler (Penn State)

- Bryan Edwards (South Carolina)

- Michael Pitman (USC)

Didn’t Rhule specifically say he wants to draft defense and a WR?

I don't recall that, he may have. Not in the first 3 rounds though.

They will take someone in the later rounds with potential and develop them. A few more in FA as well.

Not sure about the CeeDee Lamb rumor but I do like the idea of a WR somewhere in this draft.  The NFC South is going to be SHOOTOUTS for the next couple of years, so load up on offensive weapons and play some freakin' 7-on-7 flag football!  Who needs a nasty OL when you have CMC and Teddy's getting the ball out in 2 seconds to all of these big, FAST, athletic, and versatile play-makers in space:

WR1 DJ Moore
6'2, 200
40-yard dash: 4.42
Vertical: 39.5

WR2 Denzel Mims
6'3, 210
40-yard dash: 4.38
Vertical: 38.5

WR3 Robby Anderson
6'3, 190
40-yard dash: 4.34
Vertical: 36.5

SLOT Curtis Samuel
5'11, 195
40-yard dash: 4.31
Vertical: 37

TB Christian McCaffrey
5'11, 205
40-yard dash: 4.48
Vertical: 37.5

And might as well grab the fastest TE in the draft in Round 4 just for fun...
TE Albert Okwuegbunam (Mizzou)
6'5, 258
40-yard dash: 4.49

On paper, that 4-wide lineup, with Teddy at QB, in Joe Brady's/Matt Rhule's offense is potentially NASTY AF.  Speed, speed, speed...and size, size, size with the hops to go up and get it.

Do the Bucs, Saints, and Falcons have enough bodies in their secondaries to cover all that?  At least we would have an identity and would be fun to watch, while our defense is getting torn apart.  Build an offense that can score 27+ PPG and take your chances on D...

If we draft a WR, Samuel will be traded

Both Rhule and Brady are noted for deploying 4-wide sets almost 90% of the time.  And both emphasize the RPO, reverses, and misdirection.  No player on our roster does that benefit more than Curtis Samuel , IMO.

I honestly think Rhule and Brady are drooling over the possibility of some of our under-utilized guys alongside the proven CMC.

Also, we currently have 10 WR's on the roster.  Add one elite receiver in the draft and you can cut 4-5 of the others.

    • Trade up for a project was dumb, he's gonna be 25 next month. By the time you're deciding on whether he's worth the 5th year option or a big contract you're already gonna be thinking about moving on soon either way.
    • I mean this is legit AF statement....you don't spend that draft capital on a project just like you don't trade up for an injured RB either, which was done in the same draft.  That draft IMO was a necessary evil for DM to learn from his mistakes (I think he did but some may not). Also I have to mention I'm a big Coker fan and think getting him as an UDFA was obv a steal.  Coker is the better WR2 at this point as Legette and its not even debatable unfortunately.  Give him year 3 but don't expect much from him.  Continue in the offseason with adding as much talent and competition on the roster as possible including WR.  Or just trade his ass for peanuts and continue to build roster by any means.......
    • Losing him was a huge loss. Look at how the Bears went from a 5 win team to now a 11 win team. The Lions offensive line is bad this year, secondary is bad and Campbell going for it on 4th down all the time has cost them games instead of taking the Field Goals. Goff is inconsistent as well.
