Everything I read this morning has John Simpson the G from Clemson ranked high.  I know nothing about him.

He (from what I read) is a road grader--not the best in pass protection.

your reasoning is what?

he grades out well on nearly all defensive traits.

he is physical.

he is instinctual.

he is a good tackler.

if this dude was 6'2 he would be a top 15 pick.

He is not 6'2 he is 5'8.  I am not saying he cannot develop into the role just that he is not good enough now coming into the league from a small school to walk into the starting nickel job and start cover slot wr's and giving run support.  I get that he is physical, scrappy etc but things just dont work like that.

I would counter that we actually do have the ability to draft some of the promising project guys and let them get reps. We are not going to be good at all, so we do have a unique opportunity to get guys like that reps.

But, not a fan of little CB's in the modern NFL.

I know there were several wanting Thaddeus Moss. Is it likely he makes it to our 5th?

Hard pass. He was pretty mediocre in college. I'd rather look at linemen, DB's, impact skill position players, physical freaks, etc. The value on project TE's is low, IMO. We have a guy on the team already that is a project TE with a much higher ceiling.

Sure but that is different than being ready to play.  I think all of these guys will get reps no matter who it is and they will slowly develop their potential but make no mistake its going to be a bloodbath for 2020.  I am almost 100% sure thats the plan.   Let the young guys take their lumps, get out from these dumb contracts and pick a stud qb next season and go from there

Yeah, you can see that with all the 1-3 year rental deals we signed people to. We are just filling out roster spaces to have the parts necessary for a team. Some decent overpaid gambles thrown in for good measure. I think we will be eating poo for a long time until we land "the next QB." Hopefully it is next year because my nightmare would be to see us end up with 5-9 wins and completely torpedo another year of being able to get a franchise QB.

Robertson is a low ceiling guy, IMO. I like that he has some Little Man Syndrome but I can't see a small school guy like that being able to step into a starting slot NFL role either. He didn't see much NFL caliber talent.

Been mocking Ismael him in the 5th for a while.  Can play guard where Biadasz was strictly a center.  Remember positional flexibility.

Especially depth---I think Ismael has more upside and versatility.  I think fourth is probably too early, but we could trade down and get 2 players. I like the Tackles in round 4, and a C or G in 5.

What are the chances we draft a QB in round 4?  There are 2 sitting on the shelf--waiting for a home.  Eason and Fromm are some bigger names.  At the beginning of this year, I thought Fromm was a first rounder--Eason was projected to be a second rounder....

We have Bridgewater, an XFL qb, and Grier.

Are we set there?

Talk me down, somebody.

I think we have to take the best CB in round 4.  It's only several picks in, so likely we will have the pick of what is remaining now, minus a guy or two.  I'm sure the war room is looking hard at the top corner on their board when #113 comes around.  It's not as dire as DT was.  We have several JAGS at CB and I think Burris now plays corner instead of safety.  No need to force a double dip, but we certainly should get at least one corner out of the next round or two.

I just think the starting CB window has closed.

I was screaming for the CB in the second--but YGM was the pick and should have been.  Then I thought they were trading up for Fulton or someone similar at CB--but I loved the Chinn pick.  So here we are.  We are going to have to sign someone cut or a current free agent.

I remember they were looking at CBs very late--borderline Undrafted.  I have no idea what they are thinking, but I am guessing that Brady and Brees will notice if you are I are suited up at CB---I'd do it, but I have a feeling Julio Jones might get the best of me on occasion.

    • That was always the fear, expectation, concern, etc, I had.  Someone showed a still shot from his pick last game and said it showed that the defender closed 3 yards on that ball in the last portion of its flight. I forget the number. 10 yards I think it said but that sounds extreme.  When guys are open by a step, any slowing down to wait for the ball lets the defender back into the play. That sort of stuff makes the margins so small… these NFL CBs are not slow.   It is a league that highly values foot speed; the 40 times and drill times are scrutinized down to the hundredth of a second when evaluating these players on both sides of the passing game. Receivers and defenders both.   My thing with his arm strength (or anyone’s) was always “why do you want to do that? Plus pay extra picks to put yourself in that situation?”. Asking for trouble.     I wish there was a way to measure velocity on the back half of a throw compared to when it left the hand. Or really get accurate reading of the flight time of a ball from the near hash to the sideline, 10 yards down the field. Because teams could use that info. I have always seen this as being a disadvantage with Bryce but it is beyond my ability to quantify it.   I think it would show what that arm strength is really about, a lot more than just measuring how much air can you put under it so it will fly as far as possible.
    • Who didn't see that coming....
    • Its a detriment if he can't play...as we are seeing.
