If the daily promo emails are any indication...

It’s also close to the start of the season, so every team does that sort of push.

I definitely don't recall getting bombarded by daily promo emails in years past. I'd be very surprised if the team store was tracking well behind year over year. This doesn't feel like "normal" promo activity. It feels like desperate promo activity.  Every day is ridiculous.

No Cam Newton + no in person fans at games = big loss in revenue

Its a whole new world now with Covid. Cam was great but I dont even believe his absense accounts for much considering the economic impact of Covid and what it means for the future. I doubt many are not buying gear because of Cam...and more like not buying because they likely wont be able to wear it at games anytime soon.

There is also relatively new ownership; and ownership that's all about data crunching and analytics. These daily "touches" are definitely all the rage in marketing right now. Lots of marketing data shows that, like, each sale results from about 12 touches. So I wouldn't be surprised if this is just Tepper's team's influence on the marketing department to employ the latest sales and marketing best practices to drive revenue.

Just me thinking from a Sales POV, if I were with the Panthers, I'd look at the huge roster turnover as an opportunity; i.e. no one has jerseys or paraphernalia for the current players, so I'd try to drive people to get new Bridgewater jerseys, etc.

There's definitely a point of diminishing returns where people find it annoying and unsubscribe. I clicked unsubscribe right before making this thread.

The Panthers are definitely feeling that their fan base has taken a hit. I'm getting emails literally every day from the team store with different promo offers. Their revenue must be down big time.

i bout a couple pair of comfort cush vans straight from their website - omfg the emails.  had to block them.  i think its just how some companies are doing business now.

And they're accounting for that, surely. Because there's a large enough portion of the market on whom it's effective, and that's who they actually make money on. If you're getting marketing promotions every day, and never buying anything, then they aren't really missing out on anything by you unsubscribing, are they? It's the reason I can play Apex Legends for free forever while at the same time EA is making record-breaking money on it. Because they know they make more than enough money off the "whales" who buy loot crates every day, and subscribe to every "Season."

Point being, I don't think it is a red flag about the health of the franchise or anything. It could just as easily be explainable as the new leadership's marketing methodology.

Of course they are not equal but losing a player with the social media and marketing reach of Cam Newton also hurts. Cam has more Instagram and Twitter followers as many teams do. He has over 3 million more Instagram followers than the entire Panthers Instagram. Panthers Twitter has one of the highest follower totals in the NFL though beating Cam by about 2 million. Still, an individual player having as many followers as entire teams is a pretty big loss in marketability.

It has nothing to do with the financial health of the franchise. But it may have everything to do with the health of that particular segment of the business. It's somebody's job to oversee that and they might be feeling a lot of pressure right now. Annoying your customer base is a desperation strategy, not one for sustained success.

Man, I wish I had so much first-hand information--I could troll with confidence too.
