Wednesday practice: - Both Kawann Short and Dennis Daley participating today. Good signs after Short missed last two games and Daley missed all three. - Did not see Russell Okung, Yetur Gross-Matos or Derrick Brown

CB Donte Jackson (toe) back at practice

Both WR Keith Kirkwood (broken clavicle) and CB Eli Apple (foot/ankle) back at practice today. The team now has 21 days to move them from injured reserve to the active roster. This was the first day they were able to return to practice with the new minimum three week IR rule.

Panthers DNP: Derrick Brown (not injury related), Yetur Gross-Matos (illness), Russell Okung (groin)

Limited: Jeremy Chinn (hip) Dennis Daley (ankle), Donte Jackson (toe), Kawann Short (foot), Adarius Taylor (hip)

Matt Rhule did not give an exact timeline on Keith Kirkwood and Eli Apple's return, but did mention that need at each of their respective positions as a factor to their return.

Matt Rhule said that some of his coaches visited with Kliff Kingsbury and his staff last year to learn. Also said Kingsbury was one of the coaches he reached out to when he was considering an NFL job.

    • This guy pre-draft was saying he could take or leave football, and he seems to have been playing with that mentality ever since lol.
    • Agreed, another safety would be nice. Bud Clark, TCU, is one I would like to see us take a flyer on later in the draft, if he stays healthy and we don't take someone earlier. I just really hope we draft a solid C this year. Tired of seeing us cycle through average to below average players in that area.
    • Bryce doesn't like throwing into the middle of the field unless the play broke down or it's set up to give him a passing lane.  So because of this issue, most of the passing offense has to be outside the numbers towards the boundary. So you see him throw a lot of dump offs, swing routes, short side out routes, comebacks or deep balls outside the numbers using the boundary as protection of an interception.    Pretty easy for a NFL defense to see this and scheme against it.  All you have to do is run a shell cover 2 deep dime, LB plays a hook underneath, take the flat away with a blitz/flat zone option for the two inside DB's, outside two DB's play hook zone underneath and carry anything deep.    Pretty much what NO ran to take away Rico while also limiting What Bryce can do as well.
