They’re similar players in a lot of ways. Teddy was a good pickup.

Matt sucks big Panther balls. The best you can hope for is getting Lawrence, otherwise you’re stuck with his overpriced timely picks.

I wasn’t a big fan of Teddy because I was looking forward to shooting for Trevor. I’d still rather have Trevor just based on upside, but I wouldn’t give up Teddy for Ryan even if his cap was covered by Art. I just really hope you guys don’t luck into Lawrence. Hopefully, Matty Poo does just enough to keep his job.

Ryan is 16-9 against the Panthers, with a ~96 passing rating – maybe he should have played with the shaft a bit more?

Lawrence would undoubtedly be a boon , but 1) the Jets are realistically way worse and 2) our cap is such that (due to Ryan and Jones' contracts & dead money) we wouldn't be able to capitalize on the advantage that is paying a starting QB ~$5mm a year during his rookie contract. It'd probably make the most sense to deal the hypothetical #1 pick for a huge haul, unless we truly think Lawrence is a ~Mahomes-level talent.

I agree. Neither have elite arms but are smart as a whip.

Hope we can find Teddy his own version of Julio tho

Guy is a cheat code. Probably the most dominant receiver between the 20s in league history; what's keeping him from being the obvious #2 of all-time are 1) end-zone struggles and 2) health.

Matt Ryan looked terrible. Him and that contract are going to be the toughest sells to prospective GMs and HCs that have other viable options. They're either going to have to be convinced that Ryan is fixable or they're going to have to be convinced that they can navigate the cap hell that parting with him will create.

Ryan is realistically the QB until end of 2021 at the earliest (though even that “out” pretty punitive — 2022 is more likely).  Good news is QB rating still >90 and he’s never been dependent on physicality to make plays, but agree that we might be a tougher sell than a franchise with a fresh slate, unfortunately.

Ryan has had Roddy White, Julio Jones, Tony Gonzalez at one point during his whole career. That along with a good running back in either Michael Turner or Freeman. They always had stacked offensive weapons, even the #2 WR where legit form Sanu, Riley, to Harry Douglas. Hes been beyond blessed.

Yep. I can't blame them for surrounding their QB with talent. That's what every team should try to do, but that last contract was a huge mistake. It seems like everyone thinks their QB is going to continue playing at a high level through their late 30s and possibly into their 40s because of what we've seen with Brady and Brees recently, but ultimately those guys will likely prove to be the exceptions not the rule. Ultimately, Father Time is undefeated and Brees and Brady both had the playing styles to last a long time not relying much on physical gifts and they were very fortunate on the injury front (well, at least Brees was after his shoulder issues that led to the Chargers parting ways with him).

Cutting Ryan this year will cost ATL around 50M in dead cap space. You have him until 22....unless you pull a trade and sign. Will be hard to do with the number of QBs coming out this year. I would definitely be concerned about how much has been invested in and around him vs his play at this point.

As an aside I give you props for not trolling and coming on here win or lose. It has been amazing how many fair weather ATL trolls wont come on here to take their medicine when you are having a bad year after showing up to talk junk after wins.

Downside has been garbage OLs (sacked 100 times over past 2 seasons) and defenses that can’t stop a nosebleed that force playing from behind. Always a double-edged sword in the salary cap era.

    • With the contract money an OT first rounder makes you can ALWAYS get a new girlfriend.  And probably an upgrade at that.  You only got 2 parents.
    • Brother. You are wholly confusing comparing situations and applying actual standards like most other franchises do like simply getting into a playoff series and winning at least 1 or 2 series games with praising. Nobody is praising the Hawks. Nobody is praising the Magic. Nobody here likes those teams. But reality is reality. The Hawks like other franchises have traded players fired coaches etc but they can still win a couple playoff games. How is that not the bare floor for you or anyone else? What are we doing here if it isn't? We've seen eye to eye on many things over the years. But you are in the camp on the Hornets where you are emotionally attached to LaMelo where you feel the need to carry his water like he's got that juice. That's cool that you feel that way. It's your prerogative. But I differ from that viewpoint entirely. If he had that juice we would not have gotten wiped off the court in 2 play in games with 2 different coaching staffs and rosters. if people don't like hearing that well I'm sorry but how the hell is this team ever going to get better and ultimately go anywhere in the postseason if we just blindly pat them on the back for getting their asses whooped before they actually even get into the real playoffs? There seem to be some Bryce Young level standards being applied here. That's wild to me. But to each his own.
    • Proctor/Freeling were always the belles of the ball where we were picking. What those two *could* become at OT was far greater than what others could be at their respective positions and I’m glad our FO could see that.
