Why did the Panthers sign him? Why did the Saints give up a third round draft choice for him to to back up Drew Brees? Why did they make him the highest paid back up in the league after he turned down a chance to start with Miami? There's the actions of several NFL franchises, then there's the opinion of a Panther fan sitting on the couch playing, "Are You Smarter Than A GM". I'll take the NFL for 63 million please.

We signed him because he knew Joe Brady's offense.

The Saints had a 40 year old QB and needed a good backup. It's why they signed Jameis Winston this year. If they actually thought Teddy was a legit franchise QB they would've re-signed him instead of gimmick player Taysom Hill since Brees is likely playing his last season. They preferred Hill. They know Bridgewater level QBs aren't a rare commodity.

Hell, if WE thought Teddy was a legit franchise QB we wouldn't have been all over Herbert in the draft.

All over Herbert as in pass.

So twenty one large is the going rate for knowing an offense. I'd say That Teddy's resume, with the Pepsi rookie of the year, 2015 pro bowl alternate and, five straight wins in relief of Brees had something to do with it too.

We didn’t pass on Herbert. He was drafted before we picked. A lot of people were wrong about him. He’s been way better, way earlier than almost anyone predicted.

our oline isn't real good.  teddy needs better protection to really thrive.   any qb we have will need that.  crazy in miami the coach waited until tua was healthy and he was sure he had a line in place that could protect him before putting him out there.  so many what if's from our past.

back to us though, i don't see our receivers being very good at scramble drills right now.   not that there's a lot of time on the scrambles, but when our receivers get to the top of their routes you just see a lot of standing around when the camera is panned.

Curtis typically is pretty good at that when he’s healthy.

Look what Tannehill is doing after getting away from Gase. I honestly wouldn't be shocked if Darnold has a similar resurgence after getting away from him.

I have asked/commented about this a ton of times on here.  I never watch the jets so I cannot speak to how Darnold is playing or why he is playing bad.  I can surmise its Adam Case and the overall franchise that is the hindrance.  I know I watched him in college and he was pretty good and highly rated coming out by just about everyone.  If Brady likes what he sees here then it would be advantageous IMO to try and get a qb with talent that has already been in the league a few years and this puts us ahead of schedule.  Granted I dont know what it would take to get him or how much he would cost but a talent like Darnold could be useful especially since it appears the jets are in complete tear down mode

Yeah, people assumed our OL was great because they gave up zero sacks when it had a lot more to do with scheme and Teddy getting the ball out quick.

I feel like that’s always been an issue. So many times when Cam was running around people would flame him for not keeping his eyes down field. Then you’d go and watch the All-22 and all the WR’s are basically standing there with their hands on their hips once they’ve ran their route. This is another thing Seattle does so well. Guys like Baldwin, Kearse and now Lockett are constantly working their way back to the QB and moving once they see Wilson scrambling.

Why did Payton let him walk knowing this is Brees last year?  And please dont give me the "they couldnt afford him" excuse.  The saints are one of the if not best teams at manipulating the cap.  If Payton wanted him he would be on the roster

Not everyone.  Sacks or no sacks our line needs a massive upgrade.  I have been banging that table for months.

Bingo. They chose to keep a gimmick player in Taysom Hill over Teddy Bridgewater because they know Teddy Bridgewater level QBs aren't particularly difficult to come by. So they re-signed Hill and went out and signed another backup QB with a lot higher upside.

I said this the day the Panthers  signed him here

felt it was Sean beating the Panthers ass in a different way

the saints have shamus but it would not surprise me if they draft a QB as well

The Saints didn't let Teddy do anything. Teddy chose to sign with the Panthers. Welcome to 2020 America.

Once again in the infinite wisdom of another closet GM, the Panthers let a quarterback with a "much higher upside" than Teddy slip through their fingers and sign with a division rival.  On top of that, this much better prospect was so attractive that he was left dangling in the free agent wind for a month before signing a minimum wage contract, while Teddy Bridgewater was the first free agent quarterback sighed on day one of the free agent signing period. Not fitting the narrative here.

Sorry man, the reality of the situation is that until we start having sustained success like the Saints have had over the past decade and a half or so, we don't have a leg to stand on sitting here trying to claim we're outsmarting them. The reality is that they have more winning seasons since 2006 than we have in our entire franchise history. Until we get our act together and start start having some consistent success, the smart money is on them. Like it or not.

    • 100%. And these same people will claim you have an agenda. You can't have it every way. We had the lowest rated defense in the league last year. Statistically the worst ever. By PFF grades (for whatever that's worth- but they are readily accepted, used, and conveyed by most "reputable" sources), the defense was the worst ever. Not only that, PFF rated our receiving corp the worst in football last season. The absolute worst... out of 32 teams. Which is why regardless of the lip service Canales and Morgan paid to the current guys, they knew it would be criminal not to give Bryce more help. People fixating on team stats and not taking these things into context are stupid, plain and simple, and I'm for one thankful they're not running this team (or probably anything for that matter bc they obviously can't discern reality. Again, going back to the eyeball test these Narrative Nancies seem to hate so much, did they not see the windows Bryce was putting balls into? Have the generally not watched much NFL? Please, please show me the film where all these NFL QBs are making throws like this to this point Bryce was "below average" down the stretch compared to them. Bryce made more wow throws in that 3 game stretch of the Bucs, Chiefs, and Eagles than every other QB combined in all the years since since Cam got hurt I genuinely am baffled by people that can watch throws like that and act like it's nothing. I guarantee you Steve Spagnola, Todd Bowles, and and Vic Fangio didn't think it was nothing after watching the little guy torch them with players those teams would be embarrassed to trot out at the skill position players. The national media spent all year making excuses for Mahomes not having elite weapons when he had multiple 1st & 2nd round talents at the skill positions along with future HoFers in Kelce and Hopkins. Bryce wasn't throwing for 300 yards every week with David Moore and Adam Theilen in spite of jaw dropping throws and you want to say the guy played below average. For those people, again, we ain't watching the same sport. And the name calling doesn't change that... The vitriol and projection... it's off the effing charts with these people.
    • "Well you see if you remove this terrible game that terrible game this other terrible game and then focus on these games you'll see he's actually one of the better QB's in the league and he's actually as good as Jayden Daniels". My god this place is delusional. I love it.
