I've lost all hope in Ian Thomas.  47 snaps and he produced 9 yards.  On that 1 catch, he had a running start and got absolutely stoned at the first down marker by a CB.

A CB should NEVER tackle a TE with a full head of steam without gaining another yard or 2.  Dude is soft.

Huge problem is the LBs that are replacing him are equally bad.

 

I don't know if LB or S is the worst position group on the team but it's close.

We have no TEs.  Manhertz is reputed to be a blocker but I saw him get owned a few plays.

58% is still too much. He just does not do anything other jump on a pile for an assist. He cannot diagnose a play and seems to be a couple of seconds behind before he attacks.

What's very clear over the first three weeks is that Rhule is absolutely unafraid of using his ENTIRE roster on game day.  Look no further than Marquis Haynes.  In the entire 2019 season, he had 210 defensive snaps and it always felt like those were given to him grudgingly.  In six games of 2020, he's already got 142.  He's had legit chances to show what he can do.

I don't know if Haynes will ever be any good.  I do know that this offseason we'll be able to say we have given him every opportunity to prove himself.  We can then cut him or keep him based on knowledge of what he actually did in real live football games.

This is how you find out who your players are.  You . . . let them play.

He's also unafraid to shift things around.

Depth chart management was never one of Ron Rivera's strong suits. I'm hoping Matt Rhule will prove different .

So far, signs are good.

Would like to see Burns and Brown's snaps up a little more, but I know quite a bit of that is situational.

As far as Donte, even though he played, if he has turf toe, he probably won't be right all year unless he sits for several weeks, so that's probably the reason for his snaps being down.  He's trying to play, but he's just not fully healthy, is my guess.

Also, would like to see Chris Reed's snap count adjusted to ZERO lol.

      This is a toughie because I wonder what a guy like Canales thinks about redemption stories for addiction issues. Also, I think this is a case of 1 player getting caught, and not being naive enough to think this isn't more common in college than we think. I'd toss a 3rd rounder out there. 2026 is essentially a redshirt season regardless, so he's not taking over for any NFL QB next year. Best case, he's ready to go in 2027 if we pass on Bryce's extension. Worst case, he's our future backup QB2. Kid has the tools to be an NFL QB. I do think we could somehow land a '26 3rd round pick back in a trade. Our past years' third rounders are: Brazzell Princely Wallace DJ Johnson Matt Corral All this to say, I could see a team like the Jets going w/ a 2nd. They have three FRPs next year.

      I think we've seen improvement in Bryce's performance. It still isn't up to world beater status, but in Canales defense, he can say that the limitations of the player were hit. I think he survives that even if Bryce doesn't. Still, I think it's a 50/50 shot for Bryce to make it. QB is one of the toughest jobs to do in the sports world, if not the most, so the failure rate is really high, no matter the pedigree. Heck, Archie Manning gets a lot of credit as a great QB but anyone who saw his career in motion knows he wasn't really that good and he was surrounded by bottom of the bowl players. He did get it figured out with his sons, though. That grandson... maybe.
