An issue with OL coaching

Mr. Scot

Recommended Posts

Maybe about half a dozen times or more now I've seen Panther linemen basically step out of the way of pass rushers.

It happens because they move first, ostensibly to get themselves in position but since their opponents haven't yet moved or committed themselves, they actually wind up taking themselves out of position and creating a wide open lane.

Reed did this yesterday, Little did it multiple times when he started and I'm pretty sure Paradis has done it at least once as well.

It's one thing if a single guy does it, but multiple guys doing it makes me think there might be a coaching issue somewhere.

Something is going on and it needs to change. Moton is literally the only guy we have consistently playing well. I’d add Okung but who woulda thought an aging LT will have issues with injuries and holding up.

It’s really a patchwork oline. Looks good 5vs3 and subpar dline but man get a 5v5 matchup or even 4 with an average line and poo hits the fan.

Have we learned nothing from Luck, Carr, or Cam? Every QB we have runs for his life way more than he should.

This is why Brees looks better playing our offense than TB. In reality TB is just as good at this point in Brees career running that offense but simply does not have the olineman.

At this point there is no point drafting the next QB with one serviceable starting olineman.

Okung is playing well but is having trouble staying healthy.

You might be onto something. I just commented in the Chris Reed thread that on one of the plays it looks like he had the wrong assignment. He had the DT lined up to his inside and at the snap moves inside to attack the DT like it’s a run play and the DT sees that and just runs around him on the outside basically untouched. Certainly possible the OL are coached to do that to disrupt the DL burst off the line and engage early. Obviously there can be some extreme downsides to doing that if you lack the ability to recover which Reed certainly does.

I am seeing this in the interior OL.  So is the problem Paradis?  (presnap calls)

MLB, CB, S, TE, OG, C.

Gotta upgrade all of these spots before we are ready to roll.

Is Paradis making the pre snap blocking calls? I know it was always the center when Cam was the QB but I thought Teddy was doing that now.

I wonder if this is masking the lack if talent the coaching staff has had to deal with?

No idea why this is but it is a recurring theme.

Are fundamentals a talent issue or a coaching issue? You would assume at this level guys know how to block, which gaps to fill, how to wrap up and tackle, etc, etc. Is it because the coaching staff isn't on them to perform and the preparation is inadequate? Or is it because the players themselves don't care to do it, aren't committed or ready to do whatever it takes to win.

I don't know. As far as the coaching, it's pretty early for the staff and they have masked some pretty incredible weaknesses this year. I don't expect them to be miracle workers. I was just wondering if it is the result of patching this Oline together this year and masking weaknesses as best as possible.

I mean these issues are being brought to light mainly cause both the bears and Saints have good DLs. That along with new staff, weird off-season, no pre-season, and not enough practice. Biltzing seem to have benefits too on this unit and teddy.
