Games this week should improve our draft status

This is all assuming we don't pull a miracle and upset KC.

NYG vs WFT - If WGT wins this game that puts them tie with us on record.  I'll be pulling for WFT.

Det vs Minn - Minn is starting to roll and will move even with us after this weekend.  Plus Stafford is out because of Covid

Hou vs Jax - Both only have one win so one will move closer.  Rather Houston win because Jax is going to be ahead of us anyhow. They look terrible Hou would only need one more to tie and two to go ahead of us.

Den vs Atl - Denver is already even with us and play us later,  I'll be pulling for Atl to win so they'll be even with us.

LAC vs LV - Would love to see Herbert and Co. beat Gruden would put them even with us.

NE vs NYJ - NE will keep NYJ as the top pick and move into a tie with us.

BTW Dallas has no change against the Steelers.

I'm not sure of the tiebreaker but we should move up into the top 10 after this weekend.

Assuming all that happens the draft order is

1. Jets

2. Giants

3. Jaguars

4. Cowboys

5. Texans (Dolphins)

6. Bengals

7. Falcons

8. Panthers

Interesting.   We play many of those team that are even with us or will be after this weekend.

I think our remaining schedule KC, TB,  GB, Minn (as long as Cook is playing) and N.O are losses. Det. Den and WFT are a toss up.  Den and WFT have good defenses.  TB isn't a fan of good defense.   IMO Detroit is our best bet for another win.

THAN AGAIN.....ANY GIVEN SUNDAY

I can see these teams improving their record before it is all said and done.

Bengals - who looked good last week against Tenn

Atlanta - If they stop giving games away

Dallas - Just because they play in a weak division

Texans - They should crack two or three more win.

Our games against MN and DET games will be huge for draft position. We really should win those games but if we continue our slump from these past 3 weeks, losses against those teams would go a long way towards us getting a high pick -- both because it's us adding losses against bad teams but also they're bad teams whose records will improve moving them behind us in the draft.

I don't want to finish this season worse than the Falcons. Plus I highly doubt they go QB in this draft since they wouldn't get Lawrence or Fields who are likely the only ones who may be worth moving on from Ryan for, so if they're ahead of us it's another team that probably wouldn't be targeting Lance or Wilson.

Minnesota, if they are playing well, is a better team than us. They looked good beating GB. Cousins can also beat the Vikings by himself which is what was happening before last week.

I'm not so sure. Their D is an absolute mess, much moreso than ours this year. Cousins is comparable to Teddy and Cook basically carried them to the win against the Packers, plus it was a division game which can go either way. They're close to our level if not worse.

As I said before.  Any given Sunday but the Vikings look amazing against GB.  I think they are going to push for a wildcard team.  I know it's a long shot but that game surely put the fire in them.

Cook was dominate.  When you have a RB like that.  The passing game gets better and they have some weapons in their WR Corps.

There was talk about this on NFL radio and the word is Stafford may play on Sunday against Vikes pending test results.

    • I think you've nailed what we need right here.  Rodriguez and Thieneman would be my choices, Thieneman in the first and Rodriguez in the second. Let everyone else eat up their picks on the crop of WRs and linemen. Then make a push in free agency for the top center.
    • Vernon Gholston vibes?  had 14 sacks at Ohio State in 2007; 45 games in the NFL:  0 sacks.
    • I want a high impact player, but a true FS who could qb the secondary might be more effective than we realize.  I don't think Moehrig is that guy (I think he is overpaid, however).  I want a flashy, high impact player, but we could use defensive qbs at ILB  and FS.  By upgrading skill AND adding vision and leadership, could we get better than if we added an edge or OT? I am not sure that I believe this myself, but I try to look at things from all perspectives.  Here is some devil's advocacy stuff: 1. EDGE-We are freaking out about the pressure we put on the qb from the edge position.  However, Jones II and Wonnum missed a total of 22 games. Scourton was a rookie and Princely was a third rounder.  Wharton sucked (not sure if he was used properly--a hybrid who can rush from the 5 tech or 3, etc), and this put more pressure on Scourton and the other edge players.  This year, we get Jones II, Scourton should continue to evolve with Princely.  Perhaps another rookie is not what we need.  Maybe a veteran situational pass rusher.  2. OFFENSIVE TACKLE:  Of course, we need an OT, but the draft is loaded with OTs that can pass block but struggle in run blocking--so a rookie at LT might not be the answer for a team that wants to run first.  What to do?  I am not sure.  I see Nijman returning after testing the market, but who knows? 3.  INSIDE LB:  A huge need, regardless of how you spin it.  However, I see a few free agents who would be solid here, and I see the second round having a few ILBs with starting potential.  I do not see an ILB worth the first round pick unless a freak falls to us. 4.  With veteran defensive backs, a young, intelligent FS could fit in nicely. Intelligence is key--like the way Luke made the front 7 better. "A good, intelligent free safety (FS) acts as the "quarterback of the defense" transforming a unit from good to great by acting as the last line of defense, communicating pre-snap adjustments, and anticipating plays before they happen. By reading the quarterback's eyes and diagnosing offensive schemes, an intelligent FS acts as a "centerfielder" who can neutralize deep threats and mitigate errors made by cornerbacks or linebackers."
