Odd man out?

Mr. Scot

Recommended Posts

An Athletic subscriber asked Joe Person what the odds were that the Panthers extended Robby Anderson and Curtis Samuel, leaving DJ Moore the "odd man out".

Person's response: "More likely than they were two months ago".

He also added elsewhere that the Panthers view Anderson as their "#1 receiver" rather than Moore.

This isn't a scenario that I've seen raised before, but Person seems to at least think it's plausible.

If that's the case then we need to trade him. To be clear, I think that would be a massive mistake but I've become numb to watching us make massive mistakes.

I don't think that's a mistake at all. Both Anderson and Samuel have flourished under Bridgewater and the WCO. Moore while not bad at all has been the third best WR and has never had a mentality to become a beast. He reminds me of Brandon Cook's in our system. Good but not great. I think a trade would be a very good idea.

I know he and Bridgewater don't seem to be on the same page sometimes, but Moore has such great run after the catch ability and that's an extremely valuable thing to the type of offense we run.

Joe Person did say that both Matt Rhule and Joe Brady love Teddy Bridgewater, so if there is a question between those two, I wonder.

I'm fine with them loving Teddy. Honestly, he seems like a great guy. But if they think that he's "the guy", well... we're good and proper fuged.

I think he's (Person) reading it wrong.

If they *really* thought Samuel was the guy, seems like they'd list him on the depth chart in front of DJ.  They don't.  They actually list DJ in front of Samuel.

Who tends to come out of the game with more highlights though?

That they're happy with him now doesn't necessarily mean he's "the guy".

Person does seem to believe that they have a higher opinion of him than some of the fans do, though.

I think Teddy is fine for right now. Honestly, having him in the roster allows us not to force a young guy into action before he's ready. But I'm really hoping to see us go the Alex Smith/Patrick Mahomes route though. Ideally, we land an elite prospect he sits and learns behind Teddy for a year and Teddy plays well enough that we can trade him for a decent pick and he gets extended by his Jew team as their "the guy". Everyone wins. Well, everyone except for Teddy's new team, but oh well. Sucks for them.

lol Poor DJ out there getting open every week but TBs lack of ability to get it to him is going to get him off the team. So stupid.

Far from certain. Still just a potential scenario at this point.

Gotta say it's a scenario I wouldn't have imagined, but apparently it's possible.

We see flashes with DJ but Dj, as far as I can remember, never has that game winning catch. More often  than not he will make a circus catch and then drop an easy one

he is no Steve smith and that’s what we all hoped he would be

i just feel like there is not enough fire in him. He strikes me as someone who plays football for the money but doesn’t love  it   Not a sin it just seems that way from the outside looking in and maybe Rhule sees that too as his mantra is basically ‘work hard  be passionate  but be smart ...and I believe Moore went into the dog house a bit with that 15 yard unsportsmanlike in the end zone a bit ago

he is a big of an enigma

    • No one way to do it, it does appear that with the bigger draft picks of the last 5 years…..majority haven’t steered clear of young QBs on the roster being their hopeful guy. Especially past their rookie seasons but even some the biggest ones have had it early.   As far as Andy Dalton, the two young guys he has “mentored”…..have had very rough NFL starts.  Which really ask the why the heck is Dalton here.   He doesn’t really check any box.  No young potential.  Can’t step in and win.  And his mentor track record with Fields and now Bryce is bad
    • I had thought the Panthers might let him play out his contract this year and hope he stays healthy. If not draft a left tackle and move Ekwonu to right tackle.
    • Frankly, if most teams in the NFL lose their starting QB for a significant amount of time, they're screwed. The fantasy is that one has a future Tony Romo or a Nick Foles that can carry a stacked team. The reality is that you might get roughly 3~5 games out of your backup before it all falls apart. Remember all of Peyton Manning's backups? Utterly terrible. Speaking of backup QB's, Raiders may need one. https://www.nfl.com/news/raiders-qb-aidan-o-connell-suffered-fractured-wrist-in-preseason-finale-expected-to-be-out-6-8-weeks
