Several years ago when it first came out, my mother’s boyfriend had trouble with balance right after getting the shot. Not sure of long term as they broke up.

You do realize mass distribution for the flu shot began in 1945, right?

Don’t need to hear bullshit from the ‘it can’t happen to me’, ‘there are reported side effects but they don’t happen to anyone I know of’, ‘it’s from the government and they approved, it’s safe!’ crowd.

You also realize the FDA only approves the vaccines for use, right?

And just about everything you buy in a grocery store is also FDA approved?

Event A happened to Person B that I know > Years of detailed data on the side effects, risks, etc.

You know, logic!

It may have began then but not as prevalent as it is now. Perhaps because of a bad season, I don’t really know.

If the government saying it is good to go is enough for you so be it. It is not for me...so be it. No issue.

According to years of data there are side effects. Despite how ‘rare’ they might be - it’s logical to think if I have personally seen some of them with it, as a healthy adult, the risk/benefits of getting one aren’t all that great to me. And since it’s my health, no one should make that call for me as hard as that must be for some to accept.

Again of the government saying it’s safe is good enough for you, more power to you. No reasonable person is telling you otherwise and you are an idiot for going to get a vaccine...could you imagine if they were though? Think about it.

And this line of logic is why public health efforts are usually for poo in the US. People here don't understand/accept/acknowledge the concept of a "greater good."

My folks are up there in age. They are falling prey to misinformation. They are worried about long term affects which is a fair concern if you aren't being swayed by the lies. The issue is they aren't going to be around for the long term but not getting vaccinated affects the short term in that they will have to continue this lonely isolated lifestyle where family and friends cannot safely visit.

There’s a line in the ‘greater good’. Wearing a mask, public distancing and washing your hands does not affect people in the slightest.

Getting an emergency vaccine is different for me. And I don’t feel comfortable with it.  If I were to experience side effects, how will I be able to afford the care I’d need? What about the people I provide for, what will they do? To ask me to care about the greater good more than those closest to me is your prerogative and I have no issues with that.

These are more complex and valid concerns I have and while dismissed by some saying it’s for the greater good so just consider it a noble sacrifice isn’t really all that helpful when there are others who can’t simply put on a mask. Again, some will draw the line of self sacrifice for various more complex reasons.

side effects are legit concerns.  As the vaccine gets rolled out we will get an understanding of all the side effects.   I have a friend with a really really bad egg allergy and won't get a flu shot.  I get stuff like that.

at some point it won't be an emergency vaccine.  Likely, it will just be a routine vaccine.  COVID might be here to stay in some variation or another.

I am sure people felt the same way with the polio vaccine......a disease we now no longer have to worry with.
