Broncos opening up a role for a new GM is also significant, could see them getting in on Peters as well

Yep, which means it’s good we’re interviewing him this week. If we want him, hopefully we can get him locked up before Denver even has a chance to talk with him.

I think the order of interviews is significant.  Tepper wants a new GM in place sooner rather than later, so it makes sense that he is setting up the first interviews with some of the guys that we assume are highest on his want list (except Reese, who, IMO, is primarily interviewing to complete the Rooney Rule).

Been looking for info on when Dodds is slated but haven't found it yet.

How do we define average?  I think sometimes our fan base here greatly over estimates the league average for draft results.  I read somewhere that 60-70% of third round draft picks are out of the NFL after 4 years.  The numbers are only slightly higher for second round picks.  If we look at  Gettleman's drafting, 4 out of 5 from 2013 are still playing.  2 out of 6 for 2014.  4 out of 5 for 2015.  3 out of 5 for 2016, and 6 out of 7 for 2017.   Given that some of them are practice squad or non starters, but the overall numbers are pretty decent.

If we are comparing his numbers to what we think they should be, then he doesn't look that good.  But if we compare them to the rest of the league, then they would appear to be at or above average.

IMO, his biggest issues were on the free agent contract side and the way he tore apart the defense after the Super bowl.    We went from a top 5 d in 2015 to letting Julio Jones set single game records in 2016.

Perhaps. I think that some have tried to quantify drafting success in various ways, one being draft capital vs draft return, but I've also seen some suggest that essentially luck has a lot to play in it.

I don't know if it's possible to quantify with any surety! And, admittedly a lot of my thinking on G-man has to do with disappointment in getting close, but seeing seeming lost opportunities directly tied to his decisions that caused us to fall flat on our face!

Did DG really end badly? He certainly wasn't perfect here and has been questionable in NY, but DG had pretty damn good success here, ultimately.

Well when Hurney and George Seiferd are your competition...

fug NO to Reese. Im not a dave fan, but in cleaning up Reeses mess, Dave claimed a league high 5 players first year on the job. Those mid 2010s giants roster where the least talented in the league.

Reese is my only hard NO! Rarther bring back Herniay, at least he'd hit on the 1s, Reese missed on everyone. For a laugh go back and look at his draft classes, minus OBJ its a blackhole.

Well if we had stuck with Marty, you wouldn't have had to experience that.

Perhaps. I'm just glad to be getting someone new that at least puts us in a position to be legit competition year in and year out. The roller coaster ride has been stuck in a valley as of late due to a combination of the two.

You seriously wanna try and craft a scenario where Marty could have gotten us back to being a winning team?

Good luck with that.

Meh. Gettleman wouldn't have gotten us anywhere but for otherworldly play by Cam Newton. So, like I said, glad to be moving on. Both were deficient here.

Are we actually interested or is this just to get the Rooney Rule out of the way early?

Good article, thanks for posting.  I agree with those that say there is a element of luck.  I also think having a large number of picks is usually the best way to go.

He was first, it seems to be the case. BUT he was there with Rhule and that part scares me to death. Panthers need/must get this hire right. Im 100% sure Reese is not the answer.

Check this out, it goes into detail about his picks. Warning it may cause heart failure. Bring back Herniay if thats the case...

Jerry Resssee fails

Theres also a good link form the event that lead to drafting Eli Apple, about 3 huge failures happened and he was not ready, paniced picked Apple. We had apple this past year, guy doesnt want to play NFL.

anyone is better than hurney. hurney had what three playoff seasons and none upon coming back? Who saw that coming? Oh me.

That’s true but we can’t afford to have the second coming of Hurney either. I like that we’re doing due diligence on a list of guys with diverse backgrounds.
