The new sheriff(s) in town

We now know that the Panthers aggressively went after Matt Stafford, and just about landed him. By all accounts, if not for the Rams upping their offer, Stafford might be on his way to being a Panther right now.

That tells me that when Scott Fitterer talked about this team being aggressive as far as talent acquisition in the future, he wasn't kidding.

Quick Note: That doesn't mean we're getting Desean Watson and that's not what this is about.

What it is about is that offseasons are probably gonna look a lot different than they used to. How people feel about that is likely to depend a lot on whether the players they're aggressively pursuing are players you like or not. Responses to the news about Stafford have already shown that.

So I'm kind of wondering what people's way too early feelings are about where we're headed at this point, specifically how they feel about the directions Fitterer and Rhule are likely to take us in.

I'm encouraged that we're aggressively seeking to upgrade the QB position. My concern is that if we strike out and if we miss out on the QB run in the draft, we're gonna do something dumb and reach on Mac Jones just because we desperately want to upgrade the QB position.

I'm very excited about our future. Marty is gone, Ron is gone, and they've been replaced with guys that SEEM to be aggressively trying to get better. Too soon to be certain, but I'm stoked.

Yeah we have guy getting paid to watch college film on here saying Mac Jones is next Tom Brady lol

Stafford had other destinations he liked better, but he would have come here.

Well at least it seems Fitts is not predictable or settling for lesser talent players all-the-while gifting them overpriced contracts. *yet*

Aggressive pursuit of players is great until they're aggressively pursuing a player you think is garbage.

Hell, he might be. But there's a reason why Brady was a 6th round pick. He defied a LOT of odds to become what he is. The draft isn't about determining what a guy MIGHT become, it's about determining what a guy is LIKELY to become.

Im encouraged by looking around. I'm concerned we are on the cusp of doing something incredibly dumb that will result in another wasted year or years.

I don't think Jones is garbage, I just think he has some serious physical talent deficiencies. In terms of physical tools, I don't think he's a bit more talented than Teddy.

We were not at the top of his list, but that doesn't mean he didn't want to come here. The only team confirmed he blackballed was the Patriots.
