It’s going to take him a long long time just to understand the speed of the game.  Then you have to factor in everything else.   I honestly don’t think San Fran wants to wait that long so I bet the pick is indeed Jones.

But 4 qbs won’t go before Panthers pick. Hey wrong again!

Running a prostyle offense against guys who aren't good enough to even make an SEC team and playing 1 game in the last 400 days hardly is convincing he can master an NFL offense. He has a good arm but it takes a lot more than that to be a starting QB in the NFL. I could see us taking him at 8. I just wouldn't be trading first rounders for him.

As opposed to Zach Wilson where the best talent he faced was Costal? Yea ton of NFL stars pumping out of Costal this year.

Neither faced great competition but Wilson’s throws looked to be more on target and leading receivers and thrown to the correct side of their bodies. Lance did struggle with stuff like that.

Eh not what I see

That’s fair. You can turn on just about any full game of Trey Lances on YouTube where he threw the ball 15+ times and if you break down each pass and truly critique it there’s a lot of passes that are completed but if you were a QB coach you’d tell him in practice the throw needs to be more out in front or on the other side of the receivers body. I believe a few months ago we pulled his semi final game up and on his first like 10 passes he threw like 4 screens and of those 4 only 1 was in a good spot.

"Struggle" is such a loaded and inaccurate word.

If you aren’t consistent with it I would say it’s a struggle. That’s not beating him down or slapping him in the face. I’d still be happy to have him. If you are trying to be critical when you watch his games you’d say the biggest thing he needs to work on is consistent ball placement. I’d pull his PFF stats and share them about how he is the least accurate passer of the big 4 in this draft but honestly you just need to watch his throws on a per play basis without fan goggles on and it’s something you’d pick up on.

Again, I’d be more than happy to have him as our pick I’m just being critical about what he definitely needs to work on.

Lance is a complete project pick.

He has all the physical tools you look for, but his mechanics need a lot of work and his lack of experience is startling.

He's a second round pick in most years, but evidently this isn't a normal year.

It's no secret that some of his balls are inaccurate. But being a little behind here or there and sailing the ball over the receivers heads are two totally different things. I mean, the guy completed 67% of his passes. That's right in there with the rest of them save for Fields who is really outstanding. Pristine ball placement is great, but it's far from the only hallmark of a great QB.

Josh Norman says hi.  Not only did Lance play at a much lower division  but he started 1 year and played 1 game in the last year. How many qbs have ever come from NDSU. Yeah that would be Carson Wentz and he was never very good. Meanwhile BYU had Steve Young, Jim McMahon and currently Taysom Hill for the Saints  among others.

Steve Young was great! Jim Mcmahon was good. Wentz and Hill aren't in the same stratosphere!

Hill has been used as a gadget guy and hasn't really shown much but hasn't started at all. I would like to see him actually start a game and run and throw. At this point he hasn't justified the extension he got .

    • That's going to account for about a baker's dozen nationwide. He isn't bringing Taylor Swift numbers nor, sadly, are those shows bringing many female viewers in general. Substantially less than regular games will. I am not pining for any sort of publicity that isn't from the field, good or bad. Tepper has definitely cured me of any of those notions.
    • I think we are very far away from that, unfortunately. I also think our roster is far worse than most realize. It's largely unproven or underperforming young players or veteran journeymen. Our core is the smallest it has been in probably 15 or more years. The truth is, our talent pool has been shrinking rapidly since Ron left. This is the result of Gettleman's poor drafting in his latter years, Hurney's poor overall drafting and then the absolutely disasterous Rhule/Fitterer era. All the while, the deep talent pool we had was either retiring or leaving.  I mean, what drafted talent do we have that would even start on a third of the NFL teams? Just basically Brown and Moton. Horn really doesn't count because, well....he is never healthy enough to start anyway.  That's fuging terrible. If not the worst in the NFL, very close to it.
