49ers just traded to possibly get....Mac Jones

Darnold to the Broncos hopefully, so they won't trade up.

Yup and Jimmy G. to the Pats.  That way we get at least ONE QB, although it may be Mac Jones if this 49ers stuff is all smoke.  The only other club in the mix is Ron's team.  Fitz-magic is purely a bridge QB, but coming all the way up from #19 would cost them dearly and it's doubtful anyone ahead of us would be willing to go back that far.

So what do you make of Darnold's fate then?  Certainly they wouldn't sit Wilson for a year.  Do you think they wait to shop him until after the draft?  That would seem a bit counter-productive. I mean if they want Wilson, they have him, why wait to shop Darnold?

I think someone buys him for a 2nd-3rd. Could be us, who knows. He will probably be a mid draft trade.

From what I've read, mostly because @saX mangave us the heads-up, they are angling for Fields anyway. Steve Young believes they're OK with Wilson or Fields and that's why they moved to three.

I respect Sax man but my guy told me

1. Wilson
2. Jones
3. Lance

as far as the 49ers go.

I dont get that at all.  Lance is at best 2 years away and San Frans roster is built to win now like in 2021.  Trading all of that capital for a project like Lance doesnt make sense

You right. That's why they are drafting Mac Jones 😛

Why do people call him a project? He has all the tools now. Seems like a narrative simply tied to the small school that he played at. He might need a year. MIGHT.

The 49ers official statement after the big trade was Jimmy G. is still their QB this year.  If they do in fact retain him, Jimmy will strictly be a 1-year bridge QB before he's ultimately dealt.

Didn’t play many games, didn’t throw much when he did and it was against lesser competition. He just need reps to catch up to the speed of the game at the NFL level, but yeah I think he can play this year.

Come on man, I am on record that I love Lance and think he is a great fit for us because he can sit.  But he is coming from a d2 team on a limited snap count.  The speed alone will take him a year at least to figure out.  There is no way on Gods green earth that he starts anytime soon and is effective for whatever team drafts him.  The transition from D1 speed to the NFL happens to every player but the transition from d2 with a limited snap count is going to be insane.

Mainly because he hasn't played in a year, played one season before that and came from a High School that predominantly ran the ball.
