Drafting a QB in Round 1: Why we won't do it

I would be apprehensive for sure but their coach is one of the best in the game so I would trust him 100%.  I just didnt want him because I am still going through Bridgewater  ptsd

The thing that bothered me most about Teddy---he just did not seem to care--or understand the situation.  Just making $1.25 million per game to go through the motions.   He had the ability--nothing great, but he just did not play like a guy getting a chance to revive his career.

#1, 2, and 3 priority is to beef up that OL.

Give darnold a chance to ball in a much better situation with an OL that doesn't suck. If he works out, great  if he doesn't, keep searching but know that whatever QB you get will be protected.

I get the need for LT---I really do.  I want a plug and play LT--but I am trying to figure out what we will do--by reading the coffee grounds (we don't have tea leaves here.)  I see, at the bottom of my morning joe--SLOT WR or PItts.  What do I want to see?  SEWELL.🤔

If Sewell or Slater are still options at 8 and we ultimately wind up with that super hard to get your hands on, most pressing of all needs a....

...slot receiver...

..then I am gonna be pissed.

Me too, bro.  Of course, just a hunch, but based on the talent that is likely to fall to us, I see Sewell as a no brainer, then I see Pitts, then I see Slater vs. Waddle?????  I can say that I am becoming increasingly against trading back in round 1. The talent level in areas of need seem to be dropping off around 10.

They signed 2 OTs this offseason and may have some glimmer of hope for Little (doubt it).  Erving and Scott, they may assume, can hold down the fort until a second round OT is ready.. They may like the depth in round 2, but we still need a CB....I would not be surprised to see them trade back up into round 2 (which is why Fitts wanted all three picks in the Darnold deal) so that we walk away on day 2 with a slot WR or Pitts, a CB, and a LT.

That to me would be a good draft.  The picks 4-6x2, in my opinion, could be for trading up.

QB/Sewell or trade down.  Now, we could draft a QB and then start negotiating!  Oh yeah, we could really put Ron's and Hurney's feet to the fire.  You know Hurney like's to give the farm away.  Hold a shiney new QB out there in front of him and let the mugging commence.

We get #19, #51, and #83 (2nd of their 3rds).  Yes, there is a some meat left on that bone for them and not completely balanced, but I would not budge if I were the Panthers and make them eat the difference as a QB premium.

If you offered me the very best WR, TE, OT in the league...I could have my choice...I'm going with the OT.

I hope that we do the same at 8, IF he's graded out that high...I don't think that any of these QB's are going to be in the top 5 in the league over the next 2/3 years.

I get Darnold has talent and was in a terrible situation with the Jets. However, his turnover issues weren’t something that just started happening in New York.

27 starts with 22 interceptions and 21 fumbles. 43 turnovers in 27 starts is Winston bad... This wasn’t against SEC defenses either, he was in the defenseless PAC 12.  I love the optimism and understand he is still very young. However going all in on a QB who has shown on both levels TOs are a big issue is extremely risky. If Lance is there, I understand passing on him because he appears to be a project himself. However if a top QB we are high on falls to us I hope we consider taking them. I’ll cheer for whoever we get, and I would love Sewell if that’s the pick, but Darnold went from 3 over all to being traded for a future second and late round picks for a reason... I’m just a fan of doubling down to increase our odds of getting our franchise QB now vs having a constant revolving door at the position.

    • I want the conversations at season's end to be more about what else we need to build onto the foundation to be playoff contenders and less about the fultility of drafting yet another QB and hiring yet another coach because as long as Tepper is the owner, it doesn't matter what this team does.
    • yeah I was hoping  that we stayed put & drafted Levis at #9  i even said on here after we foolishly traded up for Bryce Young that I would not be surprised whatsoever if the Bears were picking #1 overall with our pick this year but what ...just saying
