Albert Breer also has us taking Fields, believes Tepper is pushing for it.

Yep. I'm just nowhere near as convinced of that happening as you are. Honestly, I'd probably out the odds at 95% against. 90% if I'm being generous.

I think Darnold has potential to be Jake Delhomme-ish in the NFL.

I've never said Darnold deserves a thing. I've just said he should get a fair chance before bringing in a replacement.

Cam never had to prove he was the guy. They didn't make him compete for the starting job as a rookie even though Ron tried to play to the press that Anderson was competition. Cam was handed the job. If competition makes guys better, that is why you bring in another first rounder to compete.

Why not? If the Panthers think he is the guy and is the pick, shouldn't you too?

I know you're high on Fields. I think you're in competition to drive his fan bus.😄

Counter to that is how the last two superbowl winning teams were built. The Chiefs and Bucs both built the team before bringing in the QB. It also seems the 49ers are going that route. It seems those winning franchises believe the QB is the cart and the team the horse. A lot of you guys are wanting to put the cart(QB) before the horse(team).

I may already have been offered the job! Jump on in there is plenty of room, just save a seat for Mr Scot...

And here's why you're getting it completely wrong...

I'm not convinced. I have no idea whether Darnold is going to be good, great or awful. And despite your strong statements, neither do you.

As far as the draft, the same is true about Justin Fields, Mac Jones, Trey Lance or any other quarterback prospect you want to throw in there.

None of us knows.

What I do believe is that since we traded for Darnold, we need to do the best possible job of supporting him and building a team around him.

Otherwise, we're no better than the Jets.

You're talking players. I'm talking process. That's the part you fail to understand.

There's a big difference between knowing how a player is going to play in your system vs how they played somewhere else.

If you question that, take a look at our free agent signings.

They knew how Teddy would play in the system.

They don't know how Darnold will play in the system.

Sam is just a lotto ticket to get them through the 2021 season IMO.  Not much more.   Everyone in that FO knows we need a future QB and you don't stop looking because you were forced into going the Darnold route this season.

That'd be a tremendous improvement. One of the things that made Jake special was his clutch ability. He was basically just an average starting QB for the most part, but the bigger the moments the better he usually was.

Same is true for QB and every other position. Would you and the others wanting Fields still want a first round QB if it was Jones being talked about as the pick instead?

Cam never had to compete for his spot. It was handed to him day 1. How many first round QBs were taken after Cam to compete with him? How many second rounders? How many vets were brought in? None. People have even posted here that the Panthers were scared to do so.

I don't have a problem with the unfairness of the NFL. I have a problem with drafting another young QB that highly when you just traded for one. Give the guy that is here as strong of a supporting cast as you can and coaching. Then see what he can do. If he fails to deliver, then replace him. It doesn't make sense to replace him before he even steps on the field.

Most of those teams sucked with Cam. That's the point. It takes more than just a franchise QB.

I also mentioned Foles, which you had as well, and as I stated, it could be argued Manning as well.

Darnold is plan D. We got him because we had no other choice.

Drafting a QB was plan B after Deshaun.

If a QB they like falls to us, we’ll take him.

Passing on a good rookie QB with potential just because you traded a few picks for some backup option is dumb. Sunk cost fallacy.

I just don't see that trade as much of an investment. Certainly not enough to forego adding a better option at QB if the opportunity presents itself. I honestly think that trade was made simply so that our hand wouldn't be forced. I don't think making the trade will force our hand the opposite way.

Agreed. We wanted Watson. We legit tried for Stafford. We sniffed around Russell Wilson just for due diligence. We called Miami about #3. We obviously projected the draft and didn't see #8 working out for us at QB, thus here we are. If the leaves fall in a way that #8 works out, you don't let Sam Darnold, a 4th rounder, and a 2nd and 6th next year slow you down.

These guys are highly paid guessers and gossip columnists. No one knows what Tepper wants outside of the Panthers FO. To pretend like anyone does is silly.

Did you say the same thing when the media was stating Tepper wanted Watson and would give anything for him? Or did you believe the reports/rumors?

Yeah no one (including yourself) knows how the staff views Darnold. They think high enough of him to offer a 4th, 6th, and future 2nd. They think higher of Watson and Stafford than him (they were willing to give up more capital and tried this route first). So all we can assumed is he is valued less than Watson and Stafford and at least a future second (equals a third) and a couple late picks.

Are we sure what the staff thinks highly of Watson? All I ever saw was stuff about Tepper wanting him at any cost and guys here about to bust a nut just at the thought of Watson to the Panthers. Never saw anything about the staff and their thoughts on Watson.

Which would make him the third best QB in the team's history.

Do you have any actual evidence that the front office has such a low opinion of Darnold (other than that it's your opinion which doesn't mean anything)?

Again, public statements made during draft season don't necessarily mean squat. And Verge, who actually does have some level of inside insight, doesn't believe we'll take a quarterback at 8.

We didn't draft Sam to be our franchise QB.  You don't attempt to build your team around a one year rental( with upside).

Sam simply by signing with us in a drastically better scenario for success than he has ever seen.   He gets a one year audition.

Yep. We tried the smart, physically limited QB last year. It didn't work out. So now we're trying the physically talented underachiever.
