So, Winston>Hill but Peyton chose Hill cause they pay him more?

Using that logic since Winston just signed a 1 year 12mill, and Hill has a 140 million over 4years...you think Winston is going to be the backup?

I'm merely talking about last season.  Payton paid Hill 140 million and was really criticized for paying him that much.   He was starting over Winston last year.  No question about that IMO.

That massive contract isn't fresh in the discourse now.

I could see him being able to pull off a "wanting all his best players" on the field narrative.  Starting Winston and featuring Hill in the O.  And then if things get bad just put Hill back again.

I put both QBs in the same tier.  Completely different players.  There pros and cons are very different but not sure I would say one is really better than the other.  Probably your pass O has the highest ceiling with Winston playing QB and Hill in the slot.

So money mattered then, but not now, because its not fresh.  Ok.  smh

I mean the money 100% mattered last year.  Winston wasn't jumping him.   And it still matters.  But it isn't the same.  He didn't literally just pay Hill 140m.   You would have different arguments you can make now vs then as well.   I still think he starts Hill because of ego and money.  But I think he could attempt the argument I presented earlier.

and I don't care about either.  I as I said, I lump them in the same tier.

There appears to be a lot of love in the Huddle for the last years backup- backup-quarterback on the Saints.   You guys should reach out to him, he could use the love right now.

I don't disagree with Winston's talent, but he has some of the worst decision making I've ever seen.  35 turnovers in one year was like 7th worst in NFL history. He has a history of tantrums and fights.

In the end, the Bucs couldn't get anything for him and just released him.  His physical health wasn't in doubt, his mental health was.  He signed for 1 yr 1mil last year.

The NFL, Bruce Arians and Sean Peyton all show what they value Winston at.  But you all know better.

I'm done talking about someone who might/probably be the QB at the Saints this year.

He's not my QB.

and I view it similar to the Panthers.  You can start Hill or Winston.  You win about the same amount of games.  You just get there differently.

Which is kinda my Darnold vs Teddy thought.  We would win about the same number no matter who played QB.  The games we win/loss might be different but we get to about the place in the end.  Sam will however be more entertaining and therefore the better option over Teddy.

Both Lists are nothing but OPINIONS so whatever.

What I want to know is whether the name is spelled PAYTON or PEYTON...

The only Peyton I know is Peyton Manning....

Huh?

If Winston is so awesome why did Winston play in only a few games last year?  Did he ever even start or play a whole game last year?

Why did the Saints start Taysom HIll weeks 11-14 over Winston?

Are you saying that you can evaluate QB talent better than Peyton  or Arians?

Probably for the same reason the Jets looked better under Flacco than Darnold.

Neither of these guys are particularly good QBs. Which is why their respective teams moved on from them and coaches lost their jobs in the process.

So far a bust.   The Saints chose to go with Hill over Winston last year.

The guy can throw.  His decision making on the bench, in the locker room, in the pocket is bad.

Chris Simms Thinks Taysom Hill is a Better QB Than Jameis Winston (fanduel.com)

I was referring to his onfield performance. He can dazzle one play and baffle the next. We obviously know he is a bust as a top overall draft selection. I don't think anyone here is under any illusions that Jameis is likely to suddenly turn his career around. However his decision making struggles going back to college are not as far off from our own starter as some think. We hope Sam can turn the corner but like Winston the odds are stacked against him. His youth is the biggest plus in our favor rn.

    • Same. I would prefer a MNF game earlier in the season. As if more likely has some significance in case things go south this season. If we perform well enough we could even get another game forced to a Sunday night spot later in the season.
    • Wanted to jump into this thread. Although I do not post anymore I do look in as there are a few old friends around. Loved hearing some of the names you mentioned.  Another  oldie is NanceUSMC.  He is the one who got me here from the old Observer forum.  Good guy and smart football guy. I have learned a lot from a lot of good Huddlers over the years, Over time. we have sadly lost a few who left this earth too soon.  Anyone who know of someone, it would be nice to try to make a list.  One of the more recent, CosmoGirl,  was someone that kind of hit hard.  Life sucks sometimes. Some of the best times were when we had our own tailgate and could meet up in person.  I think it made us better. Several dedicated volunteers, lead by LiverMush, started setting things up in the wee hours of each gameday morning.  Don't know all those regulars but I remember JakeFlake was one.  For you newbies...each game,  a Huddler (or a group) sponsored the food for each tailgate.  Eating was free but a donation was asked for.  At the end of the year those donations were used to buy bicycles for Toys for Tots.  Over the years Huddlers bought a lot of new bikes for kids for Christmas.  (I am guessing a couple of hundred each year.)  We had a good time getting together, got to make friends in person, and then got to feel like you were doing something good. It was truly a community. I got to meet Dan Morgan at one of our tailgates...he brought pizza from his restaurant.  How many of you remember that?  Glad the restaurant did not make it....lol. Not only have people changed, and come and gone.....but the entire nature and purpose has changed. Nothing lasts forever and we move on but we still like to think about good times. Same reason we take pictures. Want to ask a question I have not seen anyone else mention......who remembers    "The Couch" ?  We have argued, laughed, lived the ups and downs of football and dealt with a little real life along the way.  A thanks to  the Mods who keep this going.  I am sure they sacrifice a lot of their time out of love for the forum and the Panthers. Take care my friends and be well.  I will close with my new favorite quote which I think is greatly needed in these difficult times.
    • My top-5 JAGS: 1. Tommy Tremble: May not ever be top-tier, but has been solid and you never doubt the effort. 2. Cade Mays: Not bad for a 6th rounder. Hated to see him go. 3. Brady Christensen: One of the most versatile backup OLs in the NFL. Hopefully we re-sign him. 4. Trevis Gipson: Quietly was really solid depth last season. Glad we brought him back. 5. Brycen Tremayne: Has been solid depth at WR, flashing at times last year.
