Ok...have to talk about Gelo joining Melo

I think they're anticipating the departure of Monk. Which wouldn't be far fetched.

I've heard that he's going to make sure he gets his money, no love lost, but he's getting that bag.

Teams are going to outbid (NY) for Malik and the Hornets are going to have a hole.

LiAngelo doesn't necessarily have to beat someone for the job, he has to show that he can play defense and shoot that 3ball.

Even the Martin twins have better tape so he's got an uphill battle. He would have to average 20+ in Summer League, if not...

Truthfully, this is the most interesting experiment the Hornets have undertaken.

I can't remember this many eyes on our Hornets.

What's ironic is that Lavar started his professional career HERE in Charlotte.

Are we looking at the whole family moving back here (EAST COAST) if MJ signs all three?

I've always said that anybody that moves away from Charlotte always come back. I've seen it happen personally too many times. 🙂

Historically, LaMelo makes up for the Kobe mistake.

We had the opportunity at a better history. Now here's the correction.

We MUST build around LaMelo be it players, family or both.

Before he ever played a game on this here site I said we either have Sean Livingston or Magic Johnson.

I think it's clear now.

Kobe always only wanted to play for the Lakers though didn't he? We never really had a chance to begin with he talked of sitting out the season if we kept him. Small markets have been getting the shaft for decades.

Kobe later said he would have played for the Hornets. It was his agent pushing the deal.

He did later with the benefit of hindsight and wisdom being a little older. But from my understanding reading up on different quotes from Kobe's agent and others it was an impossibility. Even one of the personnel guys from the Kings said his agent told them point blank do not take Kobe he will not play for you. Mitch Kupchak last year said Charlotte had second thoughts and wanted to keep him when Vlade Divac threatened to retire. In the end his destiny was playing for the team he grew up with.

Idk, good for PR, I guess...  but. I'll never forget reading an article way back, I think when Melo was barely in HS and the focus was on London, and Lamar said something like Gelo wasn't a ball player, he was gonna be a model or something like that.  If your own father says that publicly, then either he was trying to motivate him with reverse psychology or he legit thought he wasn't as good as his brothers, and that quote always stuck with me.  Then again, he ended up getting to UCLA after that, so he has to be able to play a little bit, right?

I'm not expecting much, but cool story.

He just loved being the ultimate one that got away and embellishing the story in retirement. Whether it was his agent’s doing or not Kobe passed on Charlotte, not the other way around.

    • overall agree on the draft grade as a whole on on each pick, but every time I read (and I have read it more than once) that we "gave up two firsts" for Bryce, I am confused. We gave up the 2024 first, but we swapped 2023 firsts, so we didn't give up anything there. We did give up our former first rounder in DJ, but I don't think thats what you mean as one of the "firsts" we gave up.
    • Didn't  see this posted (since 2023) but since folks have been posting that you can't judge a draft class for three years (a ridiculous take), I thought I'd post this to see what people thought about the 2023 draft. Unfortunately this may not be the most interesting class to do this with but I do quite like retrospective draft grades. Would appreciate other's takes on this (and other recent) draft classes.   1(1) - Bryce Young QB: I am a bigger Bryce Young apologist than most (maybe all). I like the kid. But there is no way around it: This was a terrible pick. If he had been picked in the 4th or even the 3rd round I would feel pretty good about it. But this was the first overall pick that we gave up two firsts, our best offensive player to get.  GRADE: C -    2(39) - Jonathan Mingo WR: not much to say here here. He was here for two years. His yards per catch are on par with Bryce's yards per pass. Rough stuff. To date he has still never scored a touchdown in the NFL GRADE: F   3(80) - DJ Johnson OLB: a pick I hated as soon as it happened and an example of why the premise of this thread is honestly dumb. This was a bad pick when it happened. Most people knew it.  Then came training camp and he did not look good. Then came the preseason which confirmed what we saw in TC. Then came the season which confirmed what we saw in preseason. To date, he has half a sack in his career. GRADE: F 4 (114) Chandlers Zavala G: Honestly the best pick of this draft which really speaks to how awful this draft is. Other than Bryce, the only pick still on the team. He is mostly average or below average depth which in round 4 is not terrible. But he had a pff score of 43.5 and though I think people have unrealistic expectations for draft picks, I still would want a little more from a fourth round pick GRADE: C+   5 (145) - Jammie Robinson S: I liked the pick when it happened but ended up being a disappointment. He logged 1 tackle with the falcons last year and not enough snaps to get a grade on PFF.  GRADE: F OVERALL DRAFT GRADE: F
