I don't think Ned wanted to sign here because he got a ridiculous lowball offer after playing his heart out for the organisation for years before reaching the pinnacle of his position. I would imagine that's why he went for a 2 year deal in Det. To get the hell out of Raleigh and hit FA for real asap.

From what I understand we basically gave him the same offer which he wanted to take to arbitration. That tells me there was other things at play besides $$. Of course the offer rumors could have been wrong though.

Afaik we offered the same aav but longer term. Probably tried lock him up @ $2.5 - 3 million per for the rest of his natural born life.

Even though he is still underpaid, the shorter term gives him a chance to cash in at top value in a few years. Not to mention, he's in a win win situation now. If he drops off, well, he has the worst team in the league in front of him and everyone already saw what he did with a great team. If he balls out like I expect him to, he'll be the face of the league and the guy who brought the storied Wings back from nothing.

In 2 years from now, Ned will be the highest paid goalie in the NHL while we keep dumpster diving for a netminder who can keep it under 4 goals/game

Really don’t like bringing in TDA but maybe Rod thinks he can keep him settled down. Does not seem like anything rod would sign off on. Could be a huge problem in a few months that we don’t need.

I don't see how it can be a problem. If he causes issues you do what the Rags did and cut ties, we're out less than $1m, so what. Upside is insanely huge, this guy is one of the best offensive D men in the league, honestly right up there with Dougie as a PP1 QB. Absolute bargain if Rod can help keep his head on straight for this season. We better be using the cap space saved by letting Dougie walk on some top 6 forward upgrades though. We still have a lot of cap space for that.

It's hilarious seeing the meltdown reddit is currently having over Tony DeAngelo compared to the calm takes on here lol

I've spent an hour on Twitter trying to explain to the weirdos that people change and Rod don't play no bull. If DeAngelo becomes a problem, he'll be gone. If he can not be a jackass, he'll help us big time.

Ya. I don’t see Rod taking any poo at all. Doesn’t seem like a sign-off he’d make unless he really thought he could implement a new scheme into this guys brain.

    • It's not easy. But I have a choice and I have to decide whether or not it's worth it. I have to say it is. I don't stress over things i have no control over. I don't worry about them. Life has enough things to stress over. I want to have fun being a fan and I want to find things about it to make me feel good about it, so I do. If it's not fun, then why bother with it? There's got to be other stuff in life to get sucked into that brings more fun and enjoyment that that. Just my way of coping.
    • Agree with @Growl Most of you bang your heads over these picks and some might be head scratchers but building a culture with players that fit Morgan and Canales should be top priority.  Many of our latter round picks should tell you something.  Words like Baller, Ultra-competitive, beast, high motor all fit these guys. Hopefully, in a couple of years when this draft class is truly analysied we see these guys get drafted higher than where we got them. I know the career GMs in here won't understand.
    • I don't think this is hiding him at all. If anything it will expose him. Every qb in the league needs help. They are providing him with the same amount of talent that most good teams in the league have. If he cannot perform in a normal environment like that then he is exposed. How is that hiding him?
