fug Sam Darnold feelings, if he is upset about adding talent to the QB room, maybe the NFL is not your sport.

Not even joking if both Sam and Minshew arrive at the same time during the off-season and told to compete for the starting job.....Minshew wins eaaasyyy. Plus the cost for Darnold was 2nd, 4th and 6th???? Minshew an cond6th???? Pleaseee, its too easy, not to mention hes on the cheaper contract......Its advantage Minshew at every turn.

I don’t think it has anything to do with Sam’s  feelings….as much as it does with what Rhule would have to deal with in regards to the media and fans.   Maybe locker room too.

Straight up, Menshew is a better QB right now than Sam. That would be a problem for Rhule.   He bet he could turn Sam into what some thought he could be.

I agree its Rhules feelings as well. Look if either Darnld or Minshew becomes thee "guy" so what about all the other stuff. You still won Rhule! I hope his ego it not that bad to the point of hes scared about adding competition to his hand picked players.....(which is one of his go-to statements), but hes a proven lair in talking to the press so......... I think they have had Darnold enough to know what he can do this year.....and that may cost some jobs at the end...

Darnold did not look ready, it looks like he needs a couple more PS games....same for OL....

It's not a case of Sam's feelings.

It's a case of Rhule not wanting a QB controversy.  RHULE.   Not Sam.   RHULE.

So Rhule would say to you : "Fug YOUR feelings.  I'm the coach here for 7 years.  Deal with it."

Nailed it.   Rhule probably does not want to deal with that type of situation but at the same time, he could make it very clear to Minshew from the start that he's the backup and not to expect to start.

What is a lair?   Is that where the 2nd-half of Sam's couch located?

People in here always complain about mediocrity and now are bummed we didn’t trade for Gardner Minshew? Really? Is there any chance you’re overvaluing a QB who was traded for a 6th rounder at the most important, coveted position in the NFL?

I thought it was “boom or bust” Darnold who will either get us in the playoffs or bomb badly enough to secure us a top 5 pick. Now all of a sudden we’re upset about losing out on the potential for a QB who could get us to an 8-9 record.

Yep. They can hold on the minshew and as soon as a good team has a qb go to IR, they can trade him for a 2nd and some change, no problem.

Dumb move by jaguars. Only reason I can think of would be cap issues, bit I don't care enough to look it up.

I believe he gets paid less than 1 million this year. It’s just a dumb move all around.

1. You should be upset when you miss out on cheap opportunities to upgrade your team.
2. Minshew has put up really solid numbers in his years with the Jaguars with much lesser talent than we have here. Far better numbers than Darnold.
3. Just because the Jaguars have done something stupid doesn’t mean it was the correct move.

I would’ve personally been pretty excited if we had traded a 6th for Minshew, since he’s clearly an upgrade over Grier/PJ. But that’s sorta my point…how many times have we heard on here the sentiment of: “I either want a QB good enough to get us to the playoffs or bad enough to secure us a top 5 pick”. Minshew is exactly the type of QB in the middle to give us 6-9 wins (nice) and leave us in QB purgatory when it comes time for the draft. Which I’m personally fine with, as I’m not one of those Huddlers who is perpetually looking towards the draft 5 games into the season.

For your other points: everyone and their grandmas knew the Jags were open to trading Minshew with the drafting of Lawrence. I would have to suspend all rational thought to accept that they could’ve gotten more than a 6th for him but chose to take the first offer and ship him to Philly. If they ultimately traded him for a 6th, then I’m pretty confident that’s what the league values him as…blaming the Jags for being stupid is irrelevant unless you’re suggesting they got better offers but took the worst one.

That’s why I’m saying you guys are overvaluing Minshew relative to the league. You hype up his stats and call him a good QB…but good, young QBs who have put up good numbers early into their careers don’t fetch 6th round picks. If NFL GMs thought as highly of him as us armchair GMs do, then the Jags’ phone would be ringing off the hook with offers a hell of a lot better than a 6th round pick.

    • It all sounds great. The only unknowns are injuries and how they will need to be addressed. Horn has a history as does the newly added Jaelen Phillips and Cooker has yet to play an entire season as well. And then there are the Ikey's - totally unexpecteded injuries that put a major wrench in your plans. I do think its a great plan though.
    • If we pay Bryce like a franchise QB we're completely and utterly buttfuged.
    • In my view, the realistic expectation for this team to compete will start 2027.  At that time, I think we could be looking at the following (this is HIGHLY speculative):   QB:  You know, Bryce.  I am not a fan, but they don't ask me.  But there is reason for hope--and here it is.  Bryce will be entering his prime.  Since we are likely to pay him, there will be changes that I include throughout this exercise--I realistically speculate on what they are going to do with Bryce and then I realistically speculate on what means in terms of the cap and other positions. Bryce HAS IMPROVED.  The idea is that if you give him more weapons and protection, that will continue.  His career:   At this rate, if his growth continues, by 2027 we should expect nearly 30 TDs and about 12 Interceptions and a Rating of about 98.  His completion percentage should settle at 65-66% or so.  If that happens, you can win with it. The following stats demonstrate how the Panthers will be able to afford it (and re-sign Ickey) My guess is they will require about $60m per year. This is why rookies who can play are important.  It also helps us see the blueprint.  You may disagree, but this is the cruel realities of the salary cap. Robert Hunt:  Cut post June 1 and save $19m.  Who do you replace him with?  Ickey. Tershawn Wharton:  Cutting him saves nearly $15m.  We should all hope to see Aaron Hall (UDFA) make the roster and play well.  Regardless, this is a position we would likely have to address in the next draft. Trevin Moehrig:  Cutting Moehrig as the starting SS saves this team $16.5m.   Ransom will be on year 3 of a cheap rookie deal and should be more than ready to take the reins.  their styles are similar.  Furthermore, FS Wheatley (R, 4th round) will be starting. Taylor Moton:  So much depends on his knee, but I have an idea that he can play another 3 years.  extending him could save the team about $5m per year.  Cutting him outright would save the team about $21m. In the most drastic situation, we have to cut Moton and the other three players mentioned.   We would need (in all likelihood) a starting DT and RT.  It is possible that the DE would be addressed, but Wharton's production (so far) could be equaled by a rookie.  Look for a cut free agent and a 2027 draft pick here.  If you cut Moton, you save $21m, and that would be the only big hole to fill.  Having Ickey at RG gives you some depth at T, and Ickey could be the guy.  T could be pick in the 2027 draft (first round), fwiw.  It saves you $21m while costing you $5m, for example. We get younger, creating a core of Freeling, Hecht, and the RT first rounder in 2027) along with Ekownu (second contract in the $15m range, and Lewis, whose contract would be in the $16m range if not extended.)  The OL cuts (Hunt, Moton) would save $40m.  The OL would get younger and still solid with veterans at G.   By cutting Wharton (no brainer if his play stays the same) and Moehrig (good player--but we have Ransom on a rookie contract who would not be that much of a drop off--if any) in addition to Hunt and Moton, we would save over $70m in cap room. We would be able to give Bryce bag  and we would have enough to re-sign Ickey (if the knee is not too risky) to a Guard contract (probably at a discount, coming off that injury).  Furthermore, we could add a RT in the draft (or a RG if Ickey moves to RT) and that would be the only large hole to fill. Correct my logic if you see issues-- On defense, in addition to the aforementioned, Scott ($2m contract) is out, replaced by a 4th round rookie contract. CB Jackson's contract ($7.8m) expires and he is (possibly) replaced by a rookie contract.  At Edge, patrick Jones II's $10m contract expires and he is likely a reserve, and his role is absorbed by Phillips, Scourton, Princely, and possible an UDFA like Isaiah Smith or a 2027 draft pick.   These productive developmental players over the past 2 drafts will pay huge dividends.  On paper, I see the team getting much younger and possibly better while cutting nearly $100m and reallocating that money to get more production.
