Gilmore was on the field playing coverage on both McLaurin's two biggest first half plays.  The long bomb down the sideline and then the TD.  He just wasn't on McLaurin.

He was on the field on the first one, not the second.

At the beginning of the game he was mostly playing on 3rd down and passing situations, then he had a series he didn't play much at all and then the series right before the half he played almost the entire series.  I quit rewatching in the thrid.

it's clear they are limiting his snaps and mostly using him in passing situations, not the other way around.

Maybe he isn't 100%, even when he does come in they are leaving Donte on the other team's #1?

Either they did a really good job of attacking us passing on early downs which is rather surprising for a RR team.

Everyone who matched up with McLaurin had a tough time outside of Gilmore. In Jackson’s case, this was his most disappointing performance of 2021 by a considerable margin.

I'd be curious to know the yardage he gave up vs the Vikings.  Had to be over 100.   But there was at least some nice plays mixed in.  I can't recall any from Sunday.

The games he faced an actual test were the Washington, Vikings, and Dallas games.  To me, he just looked like the guy we have always watched.  Steady mix of good and bad.   Everyone else had garbage QBs or garbage WRs.

Gilmore was in the long bomb down the left sideline to McLaurin that setup the first TD and the McLaurin TD at the end of the first half.

2:50 mark and 6:10 mark

2nd half they flipped and started putting Gilmore on McLaurin.  Which indicates that was purely a coaching calling in the first half IMO of who they wanted matched up.   I think the staff over values speed.  Yeah, Jackson is faster than Gilmore.  McLaurin got real wheels.   But the coaching staff clearly acknowledged they needed Gilmore to solve the problem and they could of been doing what they did in the 2nd half all first half.  Gilmore was still on the field for the biggest plays he made in the first half.

Not putting Gilmore on him from the jump was just dumb.  McLaurin is what gets that O going.  Everyone knows it.  We opted to let him get going despite having the easy answer to it.

I was referring to his two long catches in the first half since you said his "biggest plays".

I agree it might be just a coaching decision, my comment was in regards to you saying we using Gilmore more on running downs, that not correct.  Form the most part they seem to be using him more on 3rd and passing situations, who they have him cover when he is on the field is a different discussion.

I am wondering if the Panthers will even sign Donte Jackson next year.  They plenty of options next year at Corner Back.  A.J. Bouye, Stephon Gilmore, Donte Jackson, and Rashaan Melvin all veteran guys and younger Jaycee Horn, C.J. Henderson, and Keith Taylor Jr. Gilmore.

Donte Jackson, and Rashaan Melvin are in the final year of their current deals. Meanwhile, Bouye is under contract through the 2022 season.

    • I mean the whole defense was trash, he was at least trying. Besides if you put a all-pro among 10 PSers, that all-world will look human. It's very hard to judge very bad units and find the best players among them. Horn and Mjack played well too, there was 0 pass rush and -1777784 run defense.
    • I was looking back and seen Evan Neal has made the switch to OG after awful years at OT.......I wanted him over Icky for his tricep alone..... I was 100% stroud too, I was super pissed about his record setting and playoff leading start......I had arich vastly over the midget BY too. But right now, BY is about the only one on the up&up. The Texans used lots of prime draft capital to help Stroud.  It's still not ready. But if you're honestly about past drafts, these GMs are not alone in making mistakes.  I still feel they should stayed put and allowed Carter to fall in their lap, but best I know Tepper had the worst rage about landing a QB for the past 5 years. The deal is with the correct coaching staff, Baker or darnold would still be here....Baker has signed 3 years for 100 million, which is a great NFL QB contract. Tepper hiring rhule and his shitty Baylor/temple staff was a massive setback given rhule was in control too. Then panic set in an d fitteerererererer had to make a winner and find a QB. Ugh.....I hope they are back...
    • Also maybe the biggest part is his fromer college buddy, Lord Lamar told the GM to sign him. It was done nearly right after and guess who was the first person Alexander met at ravens stadium??
