Seems to me the team doesn't hold themselves to the same standard week to week. Last week they executed, and dominated a team on the road.

This week they failed to find consistency in execution while committing to many penalties.

No one got out coached. Our team got out executed.

WFT came in and executed, and walked out win a well earned win.

Many of those positional coaches are second year guys out of Baylor with no nfl experience

Seeing this, sparked some intrigue on my side about how inexperienced our postiional coaching staff really is... turns out only 2 of our 18 positional coached have no nfl experience...

1. Mike Siravo : SENIOR DEFENSIVE ASSISTANT
2. Evan Cooper: CORNERBACKS/DIRECTOR OF PLAYER EVALUATION

Neither of those of those two are of concern at this point.

IIRC, Mr. Scot was high on Meyer as were some others.

He definitely has the pedigree. So I am not sure what happened this year, maybe just the hodge podge talent he was given. However, as a positional coach he should be able to get the best out of players and help them improve. The o-line penalties and issues have just been ongoing and every growing this year.

Pat Meyer is the one under the microscope, and he never coached at Baylor.

that’s great but there’s a whole lot of other guys on the staff

by my count there are only two guys with more than a decade of league experience, most don’t even come close. If there’s any position group Rhule is qualified to immerse himself and offer a hand coaching, it would be the OL.

The staff doesn’t have a a broad pool of knowledge to draw from. Where is the guy who knows other coaches inside and out simply because he’s been in the league so long that he’s been on rosters with most of them? That’s stuff that rhule and staff have to waste time studying tape on when other staffs have guys who simply know opposition coaches instinctively.

edit: make that 3.

to your other point,  I don’t care if so and so was an area scout for the browns in 2017 before descending down to the collegiate game, which is what much of the “nfl experience” you’re referring to is.

the nfl is an oligarchy, this team is devoid of any longstanding coaches who offer up any in-depth familiarity with opposing names

edit 2: secondly I see there are names you’ve forgotten. Being here last year doesn’t count as nfl experience, obviously my comment had nothing to do with rookie coaches on the roster, that completely misses the point

1. I am not trying to be a dick here, but this again is wrong. Over half of our positional coached (9+) have over 10 years of experience in the NFL.

2. You dont rob peter to pay paul, Rhule has a lot to do as a head coach, you hire people to do a job not because you will do the job for them. Also, you are making the assumption that Rhule is not sitting in that o line room providing overrsight and support. At the end of the day, Pat Meyer is still accountable for that oline.

3. How many teams truly have this guy? And we want to grasp at straws Sean Ryan, Al Holcomb, Tony Sparano Jr. and Pat Meyer all have been with at least 6+ teams in their long NFL tenure.

Again, not trying to be a dick, but these 3 points are responses to your statements that dont really have much of a foundation.

The constant shuffling can't be easy to deal with. Injuries and dearth of talent has him hot-swapping linemen to different positions and none of them have had time to gel in a set position other than perhaps Moton.

The longer this goes on, the more I realize how spoiled we were with Ryan Kalil at center for all of those years. He really held things together.

And I’m telling you that being a quality control guy for the dolphins 10 years ago is not what I’m branding as experience.

your definition of “long nfl tenure” is broken,  the length of a playing career does not constitute as long in the coaching world and your entire foundation is compromised when you lied about how many coaches have nfl experience by trying to cite their presence here last year as qualifying as “nfl experience”

RE: Thought process on 4th down late in 4th quarter

Analytically, you should punt that ball. You still have three timeouts. Started to go punt the ball and then just because Cam [Newton] doesn't truly know the two-minute as well as maybe you would like. I said hey, I have Christian McCaffrey.

They haven't stopped him all day. Let's take a shot at it. Still knew I had the two-minute warning and knew kind of like how it played out in the end where you get the ball back with a minute and a half if we needed to go down and score a touchdown. First started going with probably what is traditionally football wise what you should do then just said, hey, lets give these guys a shot to go make a play.

I thought they would make the play. We made it. We just came up half of a yard short.

Our defense was a sieve at that point and Rivera had the coaching edge over us. It shouldn't have even been a question you go for it there. And that mentality about McCaffrey is a double edged sword. We were too dependent on him. We have other players if we can't lean on DJ or Robby or Tremble or TMJ why are they here? Use your personnel and if you can't trust them that's on you as the coach.

I agree, we couldn't get off the field, but you can't say our O was putting points up.  21 points is terrible.  It's below average for the league.  24.5 is average, 26.5 gets you into the top 10.

Our offense had MULTIPLE chances to win that game in the final six minutes, and we failed TWICE!  The defense got a poo sandwich because the offense turned it over at our 32, and they held to a FG and gave the offense two minutes to win.

It is a edge sword. The offense moved the ball somewhat but no points. From bad penalties to bad play calling. The turnover on downs well that's bc the defense couldn't  stop poo and he rolled the dice with CMC. Which Ron knew would be the case. Robby should have had the chance to make the play I believe. If you going to try and be slick be slick for real. That play where Robby  or maybe dj Moore and Cmc is beside Cam and they let Cam give it to dj or Robby instead of handing it or throwing it to Cmc.Use Cam and Cmc as decoys. At some point you have to let others make plays too. It can't  just be Cam and Cmc the whole game. The defense is suppose to be the strength of the team not the offense. Game was on the line at the point of that turnover you should not even use that for a defense for the defense. If the defense could stop anyone this would have been a win.
