And yeah, they are doing well. Once again, pass rush isn't everything, though. The guys at the top of the graph aren't necessarily on the winningest teams. Cleveland, Philly, Steelers, Chargers and Panthers at the top of the charts. All have middling or worse records, sometimes because they can't stop the run or have anemic offenses.

Analytics, though, amirite? 

Our scheme has been to make the most of opportunities for Riddick and Burns, with great success early on. Both draw double teams and break through at a fairly decent rate, about once a game each or thereabouts. The problem isn't them, but there is a problem in the scheme and in the efforts/capabilities of some of their teammates.

Right now, for the effort they are putting out, and the attention they each draw from the opposing team, we should be seeing bigger overall results in our defensive efforts. Now before we start getting into that #1 or #2 pass defense remember that we had some absolute walkover opponents in the beginning of the season and a number of games where they've just run and run and run on us, with passes now and then just to keep their WRs from falling asleep. Our defensive performance numbers are definitely skewed.

In the end, we have the personnel. We just don't have professional level coaching across the board.

They're having the most success going right at/just inside of Burns and Reddick and outside the DTs. Franky, I don't necessarily blame Burns and Reddick for the run failures since they aren't really built for that. I'd like to see a more traditional DE on the field to pair and one of those guys playing more off-ball, giving more of a zone blitz-esque vibe. Hell, put them both on the same side at times and let them try to block both.

      Mel Kiper said he would retire if Jimmy Clausen wasn't a successful NFL starter too. Just because the experts make a claim doesnt mean it's true either.  Bryce may be a serviceable QB for someone. Serviceable QBs don't bring you a perennial winner or lead you to the playoffs over and over. Serviceable QBs also dont get 50m plus per year deals which is what a Bryce extension would look like.  The stats show he hasn't been even a serviceable QB in the 3 years he's been here. The eye test shows he hasn't put together 2 franchise QB salary games back to back in 3 years.  Complain all you want about people being negative, but people pointing out that Bryce is held to a different standard than anyone else on the team isn't complaining. It's stating the obvious.

      We have big bodied WRs and 3 TEs who all have potential and each bring something different to the table. I never saw the need to go out there and try and find a new starting TE.  While it's nice to have a guy like McBride, Bowers, etc, I think a team's better use of the cap is by having TEs on rookie contracts or cheap vets, not having to pay elite TE money.
