Life without DW4

Recommended Posts

Inb4 we start changing tunes about 2023 actually not being that special of a QB class. And it isn’t, just better relative to this one.  Anyone hear the joke about an undersized Bama QB and an OSU QB walking into an NFL team?

ECU kid, Levis, Slovis and Haener (do love Haener), one will rise from that crop and would be my eventually target. Ideally Haener.

But for now, just swing on Baker if it isn’t a big asking price. I can’t imagine it would be if he’s apparently only a fraction of Deshaun’s current value. And if no, still pass on Willis/Pickett at 6 and take a gamble on Glass or Coan if all falls through in r3-4. Pull a tank with Darnold/random draft pick and see if we found one of those rare decent 3rd-4th rounders.

Jimmy G is a waste of time and is not that good. The rest of trade targets and FAs aren’t worth the time money or energy. Just keep Darnold and draft someone in the mode if we can’t land Baker.  Jimmy G never really looked that good when he’s had to take over a game. Like ever.

With the chances we land DW4 seemingly dropping, the conversation is starting to shift to what the Panthers should do next if we inevitably dont land Watson.

This is a combo of Willis/Pickett at 6…meh

Giving up assets and money for baker…super gross

Giving up assets and money for Jimmy G….vomit inducing

my humble plan would be the following:

-if Neal/ickey fall to 6 (unlikely) you take them

-if neither of the above are there you trade back and aquire as many assets possible for ‘23

-move Robby for the best ‘23 pick you can get

-continue to build the OL/DL through Free agency and draft this season.

-sign Mariota/Jameis on a cheap 1 year deal

Combine all acquired assets in ‘23 and move on Bryce Young or CJ stroud who are objectively both better than any of the prospects in this years class.

Rhule will do what Rhule does this season and end up out the door. You now have assets and a foundation in line for the next coach handpicked by Fittz and Dan.

my plan For making the Panthers watchable again!!!

If we’re not gonna draft Willis (he’s the only qb I could talk myself into taking 1st round and I LOVE UNC/Sam Howell…but nah) then this is absolutely the move. Say screw it get Mariota build the trenches via draft free agency and then give up the whole draft next year if need be. That’s why I’m cool with trading back as much as possible this draft being willing to give up whatever to move up early (if we’re not already up there) to get one of the top QB’s next year. Show us Panthers fans a legitimate plan we can all get behind.

What I've been saying all along. Can't cut Darnold with his poo contract so might as well keep him and if it's meant for a tank season then it will be and we will have a great high draft pick next season.

Yep, this is the smart move.

Of course, the guy in charge of making personnel decisions isn't likely to agree with us.

I suspect Rhule will be bringing in a vet to compete with Darnold.  Hopefully, without wasting anymore of the team's future draft picks.

    • It will be really interesting to see how both sides handle this. I'm sure the team would love to get him signed to a 4 year deal based on his output so far and some potential factored in, i.e. something like a 4 year $30 million contract.  But I could see his agent telling him the best path is to take the one year offer, put up a big year next year and then really cash in. The team also has to keep in mind T-Mac's 2nd contract, which likely will happen after the 2027 season assuming he keeps improving as expected.  Even if we could get him on a budget 4 year deal for what he could become, the problem then becomes when he wants to re-negotiate in 2 years during the same summer we will extend T-Mac, and you don't want to spend that much on WRs in one offseason, just see the Bengals this last year. Taking everything into consideration, I'm thinking the 1 year deal and then getting him to sign a 4-5 year deal after hopefully say a 800ish yard season next year might be best for our cap situation and separate his and T-Mac's negotiation periods.
    • And yet jax made it no further than we did, and its very possible the Pats don't either. I think it speaks more to the overall down year for the nfl as far as having great/dominant teams, every team this year has fatal flaws that can be exploited
    • Ehhh I agree the nfc is stronger this year but their really werent any truly dominant teams this year everyone is flawed, I think the narrative for the NFL this year will to try ahd force a Josh Allen SB win
