No need for the insult.

To the OP, it's been a minute since we've been respectable at all in the return game. Not really since Smitty really early in his career have we had any kind of consistent and good return game.  Since then it's been only a couple instances where we had a jaw dropping return. The rest has been pretty meh.

It would be nice to have a respectable return game again. It's been way too long.

This was kinda my point...of course I remember Smith being a boss out there...but that doesn't make our ST unit good or even great...and certainly not consistent.

Would love for the next coach to focus on that.

Yes the Bates Era was consistently good.

Steve Smith was consistently good.

Winslow Oliver really wasn't awful.

ST's is more than returners.

How was the punting game, the coverage units, the field goal and extra point game, could we expect to block a punt here and there...recover an onsides kick.

That's what I'm talking about...the unit, not the returner.

You are either young or dumb.

Michael Bates was a threat on every kickoff and was the best in the NFL for years.

Steve Smith's first NFL play was taking a KO to the house and was one of the best punt returners in the NFL.

Heck even came in after years of not doing it and took a punt to the house in the NFC Championship vs Seattle.

Armanti Edwards had a game winning punt return TD vs the Giants when all hope was lost.

Rod “He Hate Me” Smart KO return for TD vs Saints.  Philly Brown miracle punt return.

Well we had Kasay kicking during all that.

    • I get that, but given his college production, his actual skill set, and what he's shown in camp, he really just seems like the only way he doesn't at least play to his floor is if he can't stay healthy or he just gets a huge head and stops putting in the effort, the latter of which I don't see happening. So hopefully he stays healthy (knock on wood), but there's unfortunately no way of predicting health, you can really only predict a player not able to stay healthy if they already had problems doing so in college.
    • In it self no it's not a bad thing. It becomes an issue when they brought back Austin to play on IR most of the season again. That's not a knock on Mays but the situation. It's BC at LG all over. But on the flip side that's how they were forced to go out and sign a good LG the next year.  All of the talk and hope of improvement comes down to guys like Mays taking that step. There is something developmentally going on that Im not impressed with going on with this team. Austin and Dalton were 2 guys they obviously can't lean on at this point and yet both are still here taking up space.
    • Hands on a WR? That's crazy. Next you will tell me the ability to get separation is better than size...
