Kid looks like a generational player. Why not work him in against ok teams and give the dude some NHL game?   Freddie is toast.  Raanta ain’t winning a cup. We need a spark…

I would certainly be interested in using him heavily to end the season and see what we have. If the kid plays tough maybe we are able to work our way to the cup.

There are a lot of teams who will use 3, and sometimes, 4 goalies going thru the playoffs. Anderson is likely done for the season and, maybe, some of the playoffs.

As the Canes are playing right now, this is a 3-3 end of the season. Any other circumstance, it's a 5-1 or 4-2 finish, but I don't think the Canes can beat the Rangers in NY again, the Islanders are a tough out and the Jets are a team looking to build momentum for next season.

The Canes will definitely be limping into the playoffs and may fall to a 3 or 4 seed in the Eastern Conference before it's over.

I think he does and you add in the fact that the Canes suppress shots better than most, I’m under the belief that Kochetkov will thrive with the Canes.

Also let’s not forget, this kid paid his dues in the second best hockey league in the world (KHL), the stage won’t be too big for him. On the contrary I think his competitive spirit is exactly what the Canes need and I think the team rally’s around him.

Raanta’s injury history is concerning, if he goes down then we are looking at Kochetkov and LaFontaine as our goalies as Lyon and Makiniemi are also hurt.

If Raanta went down I’d call up our old friend Curtis McElhinney and see if he’d backup Kochetkov for a bag of chips before I’d trot Laffer out there.

He's struggled a bit in his recent games in the A, but yeah I still want to see what he's got, at the very least split with Raanta and if he's grabbing the bull by the horns then keep rolling with him in the playoffs if Freddie is out.

 

Generational player? Let's not get ahead of ourselves. He's a great goalie prospect and has all the intangibles but he's yet to prove he can perform at a high level consistently over a large sample size of games (other Russians like Shestyorkin and Sorokin played for multiple years at a high level in the KHL before coming over, Pyotr has about 1/2 of a season of strong play). He's young for a goalies and very well may take some time to get settled.
