Matt Corral vs the Old GOAT

It’s all in fun. He just pointing out where they were drafted size etc. Even states “probably not.” It’s similar to when you compared Howell to Favre. Obviously these are 1 in a million chances either of these have those type of careers, but both share some similar traits to these HOF QBs. It’s interesting because Corral has said he modeled some of his game after Rodgers and Rodgers grew up a big Niners fan. I’m sure Rodgers mimics Montana in some ways after growing up watching him.

He was humbled on draft night like Aaron. Good way to play with a chip on your shoulder.

If the Panthers had a franchise QB like Brett Favre and we'd just lucked up on drafting Aaron Rodgers I'd say yeah, let the rookie sit.

IF Cam Newton was still here I'd say sit the rookie and let him watch a professional QB and leader of men at work.

There is NO REASON for Matt Corral not to go through off-season, training camp and start like Cam or Luck, Burrow.

It's more important to evaluate Matt Corral and HIS possibilities against NFL defenses. We saved on Corral so Sam being such a high priced backup hurts a little less.

Yes, Sam backing up the rookie retains future trade value for Darnold also. Win, win. We evaluate Corral and maybe he learns to do most if not all of what he did in college in the NFL. He's great at play action and pump fakes already. He has much better cast members in CMC, DJ, Robby, Marshall.

We haven't even so much as gotten to rookie minicamp and already Joe Montana comparisons? This is the type of stuff that gets a fanbase fairly mocked.

It was a comparison of their respective careers as they were headed off to the NFL. Nothing more.

Dang man, you just can't allow folks to be happy can you? Just because you are unhappy, does not mean everyone must be as well.

Agreed. We fixed the OL and that set it up for a rookie to start. The run game will also make it easier and having an OC like MacAdoo and QB coach like Ryan will also make it easier because they'll be able to help open the playbook at a good pace for Corral and get him coached up along the way.

And Corral is a tough enough character that he'd be able to withstand the pressure.

If he can't hack it as a rookie, he likely won't be able to hack it at all. He's not like Sammy needing to be coddled.

Darnold is gone next year so unless we trade him mid season he's just gonna walk into FA

Starting Sam only puts us another year behind.  Corral more than likely will have rookie mistakes.  Most NFL rookie QBs do.  Starting Sam only puts the rookie in the lineup 2023.  Might as well let him learn this year.  He should have a decent line to protect him and won't be running for is life like last year's QBs.

As stated he has some great weapons and will not have to be the savior.  Just learn the offense and take what the Defense gives you.

If Corral is the better QB when the season starts then play him. If he's not, it makes absolutely zero sense to start him just because. The NFL QB graveyard is full of those QBs even when taken in the top 10. Never force a QB.

Someone else earlier already pointed out that Montana didn't start until is 3rd season.

Look how much money has been dumped into the Sam Darnold project. Is he or isn't he a franchise QB?! The stats are self evident. Shouldn't be.

We need to know what Matt Corral is made of now not later after caressing and grooming. We don't have that luxury. We don't have a starter on the roster.
