Jesus. Am I in a time machine? This is a classic 2004 type forum thread. People still use PCs and desktops outside of work? Yeah yeah ... gaming ... I know.

You still use a desktop for work? What kind of backwards ass employer doesn't have a nearly completely mobile setup for WFH?

All of the devs I know have a laptop for going to client sites but they all work from PCs.  I mean who wants to push a laptop to run multiple instances of visual studio, database management tools, a local web server and all of the supporting tools to do full stack work?

All on a 15" screen (17 if you really went all in).

Can it be done? Sure, but FML who wants to?

I use a laptop for work. From home. But I'd imagine most in-person large companies still use iMacs.

Not really, unless you're in various design industries. Most use Windows based systems. IBM/Lenovo ThinkPads being very common.

Current (and first) build

ASUS TUF x570

Ryzen 5 3600

5700xt

16gb ram

It's my baby. Would upgrade but I think I'll just wait for zen4 and then throw the current gens top stuff in when prices start to level off after release of next gen. Unless it's more cost effective to sell this one and build new with next gen.

I don't normally like to brag, but in the spirit of this thread, here's my sweet setup w/64K of massive awesomeness...

Installation was a breeze, hooked right up to my big screen console TV.

Console TVs: When a television set was also a piece of furniture. : r/nostalgia

Quite literally used a C64, an acoustic coupler, and a bit of social engineering to access the local PDs computer system back in the day.  Never got deep enough to do anything like changing someones record but I called it my first hack none the less.
