There are several more videos like this from when he was a Jet with the he has all the tools will he or won't he take the next step summary thoughts. Turnovers are who Sam Darnold is. The person who made this should have included the rest of his thoughts from that podcast. That is the real Sam Darnold. In Sam's mind he has already arrived. He is a good guy but he does not see his flaws therefore the same flaws are holding him back in as he enters his fifth year. To continue to entertain this notion that he could still be successful is nothing more than fantasy.

Yep. And eventually no matter the talent level, you will stop getting people believing in you.

This is probably Sam's last year he can prove anything to anyone. He isn't going to get another shot at signing a starting QB contract again if he doesn't put it all together in 2022.

Sam is the textbook most talented guy in HS that ends up at QB.   Generally, those types go on to college and play other positions.   Which is the path Darnold was intitially recruite to go down.   

The reps a Trevor Lawerence type has vs a Sam Darnold has aren't even close.  Trevor might be a bust.  But the dude has been groomed year round to play QB since middle school.  

Sam is simply not a NFL QB.  And it isn't going to happen.  But he is a decent overall athlete hence the illusion something might be there.  But you can't make a NFL QB brain this late in the game IMO.

Honestly, I think 90% of the league was already there when we traded for him. If we cut him today I doubt very seriously he would generate anything other than short term low money "prove it" deal offers with zero opportunities to enter camp penciled in as the starter. Looking around the league, I honestly don't see many if any situations where he could even compete for a starting job. I mean, if you're on a roster with a 3rd round rookie and a guy who couldn't get an NFL contract until your college coach landed an NFL gig and they're still shopping and unwilling to commit to you... well, I mean it's tougher to imagine a more gift wrapped opportunity than that. If you can't start here you probably can't start anywhere.

Yeah, Darnold didn't have years of prepping for this. He was an accidental QB. He would be in his 30's to even catch the amount of reps that Trevor has had to date.

He's just far behind the curve and he really hasn't shown the ability to develop. In hindsight, he probably should have stayed in college all four years. Perhaps he could have learned enough to help his development. But then again, maybe he would have ended up a late round pick and he wouldn't be financially secure. So, maybe it worked out the best for Sam Darnold in the end.

Nah man, it's way worse than that. He threw for less than 800 yards and single digit TDs in HS. They moved him all over the place from QB, to TE, to LB trying to figure out how to maximize his talents. Hell, even his HS coaches realized this dude isn't a QB. 😂

Yep, I think he struck while the iron was hot. It's not like he has been an afterthought in the NFL. The guy has had four years with coaching staffs devoting their focus and efforts on developing and preparing him as a starting QB.

      I still think it's too soon to say last year's draft was bad. I think those who do are the eternal pessimists. We had 4 players who contributed last season. Two were starters. It's possible all 4 are starters this season. How is that a bad draft? I know it's because our roster was so bad but still, they are on this roster so it's the only one that counts.  Before I say it's a bad draft I prefer to wait and see how they play this season. It's possible we may have FIVE starters from that draft playing the season. Anyone who thinks drafting 5 starters by season two is a bad draft should visit a psychiatrist where they can get a prescription to help them live happier lives.    I'm not saying it was a success yet but I damn sure ain't calling it a failure yet. Most players don't make it. Most of those who do need a little time. One season isn't enough time which is why they are still on the team Leggete, Coker (UDFA but still we got him), Sanders, Smith-Wade and Wallace all showed promise last season. If they all take a step forward then it was a great draft. If only 1 does than it was an average draft. If they regress then and only then will I say it was a bad draft.  Fans often have unreasonable expectations compared to the reality of draft results. I believe this draft will shine as I think it's going to better due to the depth of the class but I also believe we will look back at 2024 and say that was a good class too. I think we have 5 players from that class who will be starters or rotational pieces for the next couple of years at least. That's a win.
