Hornets Summer League Roster

Duren has BBIQ issues, especially on defense and is a dreadful shooter and is similar to Andre Drummond, while I am confident that Williams is on a Rudy Gobert path, which is exactly what we need (Gobert is just way overpriced). Williams has played excellent defensively thus far and will be great with actual point guards getting him the ball in real NBA games.

Passing on Eason is going to hurt, though. He would have made us forget about Miles Bridges very quickly.

For all the talk about Duren, you’d think he’d be putting up 20 and 10 games… but no, Duren’s and Williams’ best games are as followed:

Jalen Duren - 13 points (80% FG, 71% FT), 6 rebounds (1 off), 3 assists, 2 blocks, +5 in 26 minutes.

Mark Williams - 12 points (67% FG), 8 rebounds (2 off), 2 blocks, 2 steals, 1 assist, +4 in 20 minutes

Where is this huge gap that we were all told there was?

It's not about the stats it's the eye test, the NBA ready strength, the quickness and him being nearly 3 years younger than Williams. The potential is through the roof. Also- Notice all the teams trying to trade for our 13th pick (there were several) all wanted Duren.... People were shocked he was there. Lastly, the NBA is moving away from Centers anyway. Williams has zero chance of guarding a pick n roll.... he is wayyyy to slow and unathletic.

LOL I will save and remember this..... Williams will never be near Rudy Gobert. You people don't understand..... Duren is a monster on defense and can actually guard outside the charge zone of the paint. Eason is nice too. Could've had Eason and Duren (which I wanted) and ended up w Mark slow mo Williams and a future late first round pick for a lottery pick. And you are happy??? Thats why our Hornets will always suck. We have the dumbest fans who strive for the 8th seed and don't hold our GM and Jordan accountable.

Why is Nick Richards starting over him then? Duren looks better than Isiah Stewart already as a true 18 year old..... Stewart is better than any big on the Hornets by farrrrr

Who has Duren played, I’ll wait…

No one... But read the reports, especially the one from Isiah Stewart himself calling him a "freak" and a "bigger me" (Stewart referring to himself). Again, its more of the eye test and what reports/coaches are saying about him. And his all summer league first team nod. There are other guys we missed out on as well like the fella above said (Eason) and many more. The draft was handled horribly by the hornets. I like the second round guy though, but its not like he's going to make the roster.

I’d hope his own teammate would talk him up. Williams will be fine, the Hornets need a rim protector and they got it. The Pistons are getting a guy with massive upside but bigs are all question marks. Sean May was the summer league MVP and he flamed out in just a couple of seasons.

Williams doesn’t have massive upside but he does have a real solid chance at developing into a Clint Capela type player which the Hornets would be fine with.

Show me on this doll where Mark Williams touched you

How did you know 🤣. Was more frustrated with not taking Duren/Eason and just how bad the value of the trade was more than anything and taking a lot of that out on Williams, but I truly don't think he will ever be more than a shot blocker/ 8th man off the bench type of guy.

    • Not sure how much he was a long term piece of this team.   Sucks to not have him as part of the rotation.   Looks like it's Lee Hunter time.
    • This post was an error. Oops and sorry for the errors in the previous one. Too slow to edit.   We’ll see what they do.
    • I am not sure he will put the over the games but we’ll probably have them.   Two things I am thinking.  We have 4 preseason games.  All the coaches have enough service time to know the standards that are in place for decades. If I recall it was play your starters just a series to start woth and build it up until week theee where play a lot and you have week four to set hour roster. Evaluate before cuts.   Bevell will certainly have the whole thing down pat.   I’d they don’t do the fries and frie air will worry too. Because it is set up to do that.     I have said since they went t three preseason people have to figure a new way are still feeling it out and trying things.  We don’t have to this year.
