They knew more about our QB than we knew about their team

Started out real rough while the defense got rode into the ground. The Browns had an obvious insight advantage to Baker in the first half and we adjusted well for the second.

It was a pretty good game from there until the zebras started their poo. That PI really hurt us but that was kind of our only emotional breakdown of the game.

The game was lost with that RTP Burns penalty which was an absolute joke.

There is not much different I think Rhule could have done this game. You can question not going for a TD but they did the obvious choice of taking the other teams timeouts away from them.

If not for that RTP, this is an entirely different fanbase right now.

Not entirely different. We still have a HC who makes stupid decisions and a d-line who can’t stop the run. Just like last year teams will run the ball down our throat.

We knew the dline was thin. Our strength this season will always be coverage.

What do you think Rhule should have done differently today?

Nah even if we won today, I'd still want him gone. They came back in spite of Rhule, not because of him.

So you'd rather blow it up before we even get started this season?

Not played for the FG when we got deep in the RZ. Our offense was clicking and he went up the middle to setup a FG and let our struggling defense try to win the game. Conservative coaching doesn’t work in this league. Let Baker or CMC try to get it in the end zone then settle for a FG if you can’t.

1. Started Bozeman instead of Elflein, since that was the C that Baker worked with all TC. Maybe we don't have 5 fumbled snaps in a game.

2. Utilize Christian McCaffery (Never thought I'd see a game where CMC would only have 3 touches in a half.)

3. Manage game situations (It's year 3, by now you should know how the game is going).

4. Maintain run/pass balance (We're supposed to be a running team, but forgot that we can actually run the ball. Helps slow the rush down. Gets your O-Line going and your defense a chance to rest)

5.  Ickey should've been given help from the jump (The fact that they left Ickey one on one with the best RE in football is criminal, idc how much potential he has).

6. What happened to the aggressive D? We played vanilla as hell compared to some of the exotic blitz packages we saw last year that wreaked some havoc.

I mean, its a lot more he could've done but that came to me immediately.

We would be a happier fanbase, yes, but if not for that penalty, and had we won the game, most fans here know we would have won in spite of Matt Rhule.

you're probably correct

2. Utilize Christian McCaffery (Never thought I'd see a game where CMC would only have 3 touches in a half.) CMac was getting no traction early until we started playing downfield. No use in square pegging a round hole.

3. Manage game situations (It's year 3, by now you should know how the game is going). How??

see response to number 2.

Probably true, for sure. They chipped on that side some and that was what cmac was doing early. It was also Myles Garrett. I think the rookie rebounded well to finish.

6. What happened to the aggressive D? We played vanilla as hell compared to some of the exotic blitz packages we saw last year that wreaked some havoc.
We have no tools on the front line. We have Brian Burns who gets held every play and was gassed. Play to your strengths.

ok.

All 100% but this was the worst part for me. They were leaning on him in the first half instead of working him in and protecting him. That is just incompetent especially when they didn't give him all of the 1st team reps in the preseason.

    • I think Indiana will win it all but Miami should give them a much better fight than Oregon did.
    • When I tell people I was at that game, they usually say oh that’s so cool you had the experience. I call it soul crushing. Why? The weeks and months leading up to it were great, the team was fun to watch every week…some weeks the offense was unstoppable and carried the team (saints and giants road games), other times the defense carried the load (jaguars, tampa). Lots of back and forth games against good teams (Seattle and Indy). Good young players on the team, but the veteran leadership was incredible…from Cam, Olsen, Kalil and J Stew to Luke, TD, Norman, Tillman, Jared Allen, CJ. Role players like Fozzy Whitaker, Cotchery (he caught that MFer), Philly brown, Kyle love, AJ Klein, and so on.  The Friday before the nfc championship my wife and I after a few drinks said let’s see what prices look like for flights/accommodations and we got to talking about how much prices would increase if we waited until we found out if we would be in the big game. We said screw it, we are only out $200 if we have to cancel.  Of course we come out and just pulverized the cardinals in front of the most raucous crowd by far we’ve ever had. We had no idea what we would do for game tickets and then found out a neighbor who worked for the team could get us 2 for face value (each employee got two of their own for free, something cool that JR did).  But then the NFL mafia decided that the storyline of manning going out on top like Elway would give them more goodwill than a non traditional QB who didn’t connect with their target demo and the rest is history. I never have and never will watch that game again. I am just hoping I can see them win one in the 2nd half of my life.
