Refs screwed us

Can we imagine the reaction here if rhule had went ballistic on the sideline and got a 15 yd penalty.

Staring off into space as the game slips away at home and walking out of the stadium with a timeout in your back pocket is vintage Ron Rivera. We already let go of that guy.

This is one of the weirder discussions I’ve seen, and that says a lot. We were in the lead at the end of the game. Doesn’t matter what happened before that. Should we been better? Yes. Does Rhule suck? Yes. Is it our fault we are in this situation? Yes.

But at this point we were in the lead, unless people want to say we weren’t in the lead (hint, we were in the lead). On the final Browns drive they got two extremely questionable calls going their way, and won the game. There is no big conspiracy theory here, the refs messed up and thereby helped the Browns win. This could not be more clear.

We were in the lead, however, the Browns still completed two passes to get into field goal range and then their rookie kicker drilled a 58 yard field goal… are we going to give the refs credit for those three plays as well? In reality the Browns got a free 15 yards and that’s it, they still marched themselves into field goal range and it’s debatable whether or not they make the kick if backed up 10 additional yards… the kick that they did get off certainly would have been good from 68… so there’s that.

Weird, I don’t remember the refs completing two passes to get into field goal range and then kicking the field goal.

ahh makes sense.. you must also not remember the 15 free yards and not taking the loss of down plus 10 second run off to make a 70 yarder then too. stfu troll

There’s so much wrong with your post…

It’s a 10 yard penalty… making the field goal a 68 yarder… the kick that York hit was clearly good from 68… math much?

A loss of down does absolutely nothing… are you brain dead? When you spike the ball you are giving away the down… it still would have been fourth down.

The 10 second run off doesn’t mean the clock keeps running, it means the clock gets wound down to 3 seconds (as there were 13 seconds on the clock) and it stays there until the ball gets set…

Have some poo for being incompetent.

dumb take. we had won the game until the refs gave the browns the win.

I mean we don’t even actually know that for a fact.   Likely?  Yes.  Rookie’s kick would have been good even pushed back 10 yards.   It had the distance.   He has 70 yard distance apparently that he displayed in preseason.  Or maybe they go for a Hail Mary….and the heavy penalty ridden Panther D does something dumb.  No one knows.

it might be a dumb take but it’s the position every reputable coach generally has.   Same for players.  It’s the same logic when a Panther kicker misses a would be game winning kick at the end….and the players say the missed kick didn’t actually lose the game.  It was all the other plays before it that were the reason.  No game is actually decided by any one play or call.  We just talk about the ones at the end.

you can’t be as bad as we were Sunday and totally excuse that from why we ended up with an L.  NFL refs are always bad.  We played with fire being content letting the Browns have a shot and got burned really bad by it.

But it was a poo call.  They should fire refs that don’t know the rules.  Especially after consulting each other on it.

How do you not use our last time out to try and ice the kicker? Kicking that far twice in a row probably isn't the easiest thing in the world

    • All these rankings have more to do with the writers love or hate for a team.  Morgan, IMO, has done a really good job at building this team.  Yeah, there are a couple of whiffs but for the most part he has done quite well drafting and signing free agents.  22 is a bit low but it's a stupid opinion based on how little a writer knows about the Panthers.
    • When I saw that I was thinking the same thing.  If Evero does have a great season and gets hired as a head coach I wouldn't mind see McD as our DC.  If we do poorly as a team, I definitely would want him to be the front runner for HC.
    • But it's not about not upsetting a player under contract, it's about not causing a rift in the locker room. The players love Bryce, whether as a person or a player doesn't matter.  You can't spend a Top 10 pick on a QB and then still start your #1 overall pick in the last year of their contract. That act alone will cause a massive locker room rift/distraction that would be unavoidable.  Some players will question why you "wasted" a Top 10 pick on a QB you're not going to start instead of someone who can help right away.  While others will question why we are keeping Bryce around for the season when it's clear he's not the future guy at that point. It would just make for a bad start to the rookie's career while causing locker room distractions.  Again, I'd bet this has never happened in this league before with any 1st round QB, let alone the #1 overall pick, and there is a reason for it, which is that it would be epically stupid to do. And I used the Vikings as the example as they're the closest I can think of, because again, there isn't a direct comparison as nobody has ever done it because it's that dumb of an idea (no offense lol).
