Players adored Marty Hurney in 2010 too they gushed about him like he was part of the family. It took us years to flush that mentality out of the locker room and in the process our franchise quarterback was dragged through the mud for being a sore loser.

Everyone loved Marty.  Nice guy that paid people.

Doesn't change that fact that he is losing and knocking fans.

Fields came out apologized for it though.   Claimed a little bit of the Cam Newton defense that he is a poor loser and was rushed in front of a microphone to speak to a bunch of reporters he had no interest in talking to in that moment.  So Fields is at least self aware his words weren't good.  Robbie don't give a fug.  I think Robbie is one foot out the door.  He probably wouldn't be here if he wouldn't of had to give money back.  Think he was ready to retire.

In other words, Fields spoke his true thoughts in the moment about fans booing and then walked it back after facing backlash.  Realizing "his words weren't good" is irrelevant, it's about this type of dismissive mentality towards fans.

So much for the Cam comparisons.

I mean, in fairness, Fields really didn't walk back much.   He stuck with his core thought.  It was just worded poorly initially.

Fields is young.  Fields hates to lose.  Fields hasn't lost much until he got to Chicago.  And he needs more time in front of a mic too.

For someone who hates it he's doing a lot of it....and he is doing his part to ensure it.  The jury is still out on whether we'd be in any better spot if he was our choice last year.  The evidence to date doesn't help the case.  We'll see.

I actually watched the Robby Anderson interview on YouTube. I didn’t take it as bad as this thread is portraying. He actually complimented the fan base more than he called them out, but the tweet preferred the latter.

This is always the case with Robbie, & ppl wonder why there's so much pr speak

Cam hated to lose.  He lost a lot at first too.

Fields isn't in a position where he is going to have any success.  He has no offensive talent and is now on his second offense already in year 2.

Cam threw for 4000 yards his rookie season.

There's no comparison.

I mean, it's also apples and oranges.  You are making too much of the fact Cam's name was spoken.

Cam also had several pro bowlers on the OL his rookie year, two stud RBs in the backfield, two stud TEs in Olsen and Shockey and a HOF WR.   And all those studs around him were veteran studs.

Fields wasn't drafted into a place where you he was going to see success.  As a team or individually.  Where you get drafted matters.

Trevor Lawarence wouldn't of looked the same if he found himself in Cam Newton's scenario vs where he found himself in Jacksonville with Urban and no talent.

Cam is just a different cat altogether he made some serious magic with very mediocre ingredients. I remember that preseason game against the Bengals. He put the league on notice right then and there. Sigh....

I'm a Cam stan.  But Cam didn't land in a bad spot his rookie year.  He landed in a great spot his rookie year if you look at the talent that was around him.   Not many high draft pick rookies get that year 1.   And on top of that, as much as we like to bash the coaches, they were willing from day 1 to mold things around Cam and not trying to put a square peg in a round hole.

Receiving wise he had weapons in 89 Olsen and Shockey and he had Gross (and a young R Kalil) but that was about it. As far as the build around him he was the lone man standing from the entire draft the year we selected him that's pretty damn ugly you should at least get one other starter out of a whole draft. For the most part the Panthers got by on the save me Cam formula we would have had a Lombardi trophy if they had not squandered so many chances to properly build a line around him in his prime. But it's the past now.

    • Not sure how much he was a long term piece of this team.   Sucks to not have him as part of the rotation.   Looks like it's Lee Hunter time.
    • This post was an error. Oops and sorry for the errors in the previous one. Too slow to edit.   We’ll see what they do.
    • I am not sure he will put the over the games but we’ll probably have them.   Two things I am thinking.  We have 4 preseason games.  All the coaches have enough service time to know the standards that are in place for decades. If I recall it was play your starters just a series to start woth and build it up until week theee where play a lot and you have week four to set hour roster. Evaluate before cuts.   Bevell will certainly have the whole thing down pat.   I’d they don’t do the fries and frie air will worry too. Because it is set up to do that.     I have said since they went t three preseason people have to figure a new way are still feeling it out and trying things.  We don’t have to this year.
