Really hope we can develop him into a valuable backup.  Unlike Will Grier.

it’s crazy to see people really banking on the idea of him being the franchise guy though.

So you think his ceiling is backup? That means we wasted a pick on him. The truth is the he hasn't played enough for anyone to know what his ceiling is.

Generally guys in that range

especially QBs ceilings are backups.   A lot of teams get their backup QBs in rds 3-4.

he hasn’t played enough which is true.  But he has limited tools compared to some and already coming from a college system which is a Huge Huge learning curb.  He’s never had to read defenses, read coverages, and go through all of his reads.  And that’s even getting into the injuries.

Will Grier played a whole 2 games and never had this almost cult following Corral has to become a future guy.  Which is nuts.

He deserves a chance. What is Brock Purdue had not been given a chance.

They didn’t go into the season banking on Purdy to be their QB. He was the THIRD option. No one is saying cut Corral, just that he shouldn’t be our top or main option at QB. We need to draft one and sign a vet. If Corral works out it’s a nice bonus.

A mid 3rd round pick for a solid backup isn’t a wasted pick. Hell several of these playoff teams have leaned on their backup QBs to get here.

I agree. But being given a chance means some time behind the starters on the line, and coaches need to spend some time with him to develop him as much as possible. He was an afterthought this year, even before he was hurt. All we heard about was Mayfield. Brock Purdy was helped a lot by Jimmy Garrapolo according to McCaffrey.

Damn Washington is rolling with Howell next year. We could have had him with our 5th round pick… hindsight right?

Ron gonna Ron. Had he gone to Howell a few weeks earlier the Commanders might be in the playoffs.

I think the Panthers need to hire outside consultants to help evacuate these QBs.  We could have picked Howell with that 3rd and blew it.  They don’t know good QBs apparently

We gave up a draft pick to move down. That is a wasted pick for someone you think only has back up potential. Fitterer and McAdoo obviously liked him:

Quote

Things started off with the Panthers decision to trade up with the Patriots and select Matt Corral with the 94th pick as he told Kyle that when the QBs started to slide late in the 2nd round they started to get active and trade up and they eventually found the right spot with the Patriots and that allowed them to get Matt Corral. Scott also said he was very surprised at how far the QBs fell and he said for one reason or another teams just didn’t want to take a QB this year.

Also, pretty funny how people think Sam Howell is a franchise qb after a poor outing with 57.9% completion percentage. Both might be great or terrible. We don't have a big enough sample size to make that determination. One thing is for sure, Wilkes just did just enough to totally screw us for drafting a qb this year.

Yeah they treated a future third (which doesn’t hold the same present value as a current 3rd) and that late 4th pick. That doesn’t seem like much value for a potential starting QB. We were “interested” when he fell in the 2nd, but still didn’t want to give up more than a future third.

He’d still get a chance with another face in the room.

But I wouldn’t bet my house on him being the guy.   So in no way should he detter you from taking one.  The same way Will Grier should’ve never deterred us from getting another QB

    • If they screwed it up, it’s one pick. Kind of like if we’d taken Levis maybe, at 9 in 2023. That is their worst case.  Would you rather do that and hit or miss, or what we did?
    • He is a QB, on a rookie deal and Cousins is old coming off an achilles injury. Which QB they got is the part that is highly debatable if it was good. Yeah they could have used that on more tallent but Cousins doesn't win in the postseason so it wouldn't matter anyways. Chances are good they take the NFCS regardless this year or it goes back to a Bucs team that just breaks .500.
