Who said anything about basketball being more popular than football?

Of course football is more popular. My point was basketball is not going anywhere even if it declines. The NBA is the most popular basketball league. Honestly college basketball has been in decline for the last decade.

I remember growing up we use to have college basketball parties for the UNC/Duke games. The trash talk during and after the games were fun. Then we would go to school and talk about it with the teachers. Those were the days.

I honestly don't even watch much of the regular season anymore. I tune in during March Madness.

ACC might make it thru the conference shuffling that is on the horizon but not a good sign when UNC, UVA, dook, and Miami have been vetted and appear to be targets of the B10

College baseball exists and yes they still have diehards who still watch it even though most of the country doesn't.

Im not debating your point that college basketball is declining. Im just stating that it will still exist. I don't think it will ever get to the college baseball level of decline though.lol

Watch a game on the ACC Network which is a LOT of games these days. Used to be practically every UNC and duke game was nationally televised on a major network. Look at the quality of the advertisers. It's says everything. It's late night TV infomercial level bullshit being advertised. Viewership numbers must be absolutely AWFUL if that's the level of advertisers you can attract. It's an absolutely awful look.

Certainly feels like college basketball is currently trending to end up somewhere a lot closer to college baseball than college football.

In theory your cap per year idea would make sense but the policing of it would be practically impossible given the sheer number of schools and players.

If you make any infraction a huge penalty you would hope most universities would play by the rules

If the likelihood of getting caught is practically zero it doesn't really matter. The likelihood of getting caught would be practically zero. You'd need an IRS audit to prove your case.

A 4 star recruit who can’t shoot suddenly finds himself on the outside looking in after being recruited over and tougher competition to get in the starting lineup. If he is afraid to compete against Withers, Trimble, Ryan and that recruit from the Ivy League then so long pal. Not to mention he is probably gonna get a bag from a St Johns donor and not have to pass the ball next season.

of course, the bigger story here is that this is a late transaction that can be promoted negatively against UNC and that moves the needle. If this were to happen at VaTech, Clempson, NC$T, or St Johns nobody would care or probably even notice.

wish the kid the best but thank you for giving back the scholly.

You are wearing some serious Tarheel shades thinking losing this guy is no big deal.  It is.  I am still extremely worried about Hubert Davis as a coach and if this team misses another NCAA tournament changes are going to need to happen.

Lets look at this…since Hubert Davis has been here he has the preseason #1 team who didn’t play in the postseason.  The NIT would have been a perfect opportunity to get these young guys on the bench mins.  He declined that.  He has lost the #2 and #14 recruits very late to decommitments in the last 2 cycles.  6 or 7 young players opted for the portal to get out of UNC.  None of the things are happening at Kansas or Kentucky or any top school.

If these things don’t concern you than you are not being realistic

Um excuse me Casual, but look at the roster turnover at Kentucky and Kansas since the season ended. Look at the roster turnover everywhere. That is the game now. Dudes ain’t gonna sit on the bench when they can go elsewhere and play non stop and probably get paid to do so.

GG Jackson decommited from UNC, and that was a disaster for him. He also looked very immature and disgruntled as their season ended.

Wilcher decommited because it looks like he is going to be on the bench and is scared of not playing and hurting his NBA stick. Go to St. John’s and be the ball hog and do whatever he wants.

You sound crazy when this dude was just in the Nat'l championship just a year ago.

Seems like you just want him on the hotseat. You give the man 2 years and think he can build a blueblood overnight?

It was a bad look to completely miss the tournament with that team.  When was the last time UNC missed it?  Matt Doherty?? I think he will be good in the long run, but taking that team to the finals the previous year raised fans expectations too high.

Wilcher thinks he is a OAD player and doesn't want to come off the bench at all. He was expecting to go to UNC and start immediately and have the ability to show he is an OAD player. With RJ coming back and the Cadeau reclassification, he knows he isn't starting and decided to leave because of that.

So what about taking a team to a Nat'l championship his 1st year as HC?

We can't ignore his 1st year, then try to judge him his 2nd year.

Definitely a fair point, but he took that same roster and underachieved pretty bad by UNC standards. I mentioned his championship year. It kind of gave the fans too high of expectations… They are doing right by him and keeping him around. I think he will have them bounce back this year.

    • Yeah and I am doubtful he can offer that consistently. I don’t have many years left at my age and in my view we have wasted two and this whole exercise with him was always a three year minimum.  I am out on that with a guy I don’t believe in, and never believed in, it has sucked. To me it is a costly detour off the right track. Years.    But I am not so rigid that I can’t see excellence. He needs to display it though, consistently before I change my outlook.
    • No, when I said rage, I meant rage, which only applies to certain fans on this board. Your timeline of trying to assess whether he is the future or not is really tied to the discussions surrounding his second contract. If this team is going to commit to some monster contract while he has shown nothing but glimpses of brilliance would be deservedly worrisome, so the clock is genuinely ticking for him to settle into something resembling his final form. Perhaps a best case scenario is that he plays well, the team succeeds, but he does so with a more limited role that makes the rest of the league view him as a game manager, and his second contract value reflects that. Then he continues to improve and becomes a bargain comparatively while not handicapping the team around him, and we enter an era of consistent championship competitiveness that the fanbase has craved for decades and has never really experienced before. But that requires many, many things to go right and for Bryce himself to facilitate that if he ends up being the quarterback of the future.
    • Exactly. And the flame throwers as well, get location benefits from not going all out. But they have it in reserve.  Not sure how much Greg had but he was an artist.  There was a YouTube I came across last year or maybe even 2023 and I don’t how to even find now but it had two NFL QBs I want say one was Carr from the Raiders but I don’t really remember  The point of it is they stood side by side throwing identical distances to identical targets. Radar gun was used.  They threw the normal effort (not all out) and it was measured etc. Then they were asked to throw their ‘fastball’. They were missing and most often they were missing high. It demonstrated the same principle.    edit: and applying that to arm strength, give me the guy that doesn’t need max effort to have good velocity. The margins are so narrow with less velocity in tne NFL the defenders can Close on it and this is a league where they value down to the 100th of a second level. It is that tight
